Hi guys!

Need help here. Tried everything to fix my original lens - cleaning, pot adjustment
nothing worked. I keep getting the 'open tray' problem.

So I purchased this new lens - http://www.mrmodchip...products_id=466

It's available on numerous sites. Problem is it doesn't seem to be a direct replacement.
There's no way of attaching the lens to the rail for the motor as the plastic piece for the original lens doesn't fit it.

Can somebody advise how I'm supposed to fit this bugger please?

Many thanks in advance biggrin.gif

I should add that I've googled for tutorials for this lens, asked for help on irc, checked the mrmodchips website for guides and there's nothing out there.
(just so you don't think I'm lazy)

What kind of drive do you have, its possible that you bought the BenQ laser instead of the correct samsung or hitachi one.

Damn....I was about to order the new laser for my BenQ - same Open Tray issues...

Keep us posted on this, I'd like to know if I wasted money on the laser for nothing.

I saw the website that you were talking about with the laser that you purchased...it seems to be different from the one I got off of ebay. The casings are different...

Go search on ebay for the BenQ Xbox 360 Laser and look at the pictures, you should see a difference...

Ok lets get this straight, the new one is too big but in what way? If it is too big in height and it hits the drive electronic board you are screwed, or is jus that it is too wide for the rails or that the plastic clip doesnt attached to connected it to the linear motor for movement?

The plastic clip doesn't attach to it and there's no way to mod the clip to make it attach.
I don't know if it should have come with its own clip but it didn't.
I've contacted MrModChips but have had no reply yet.

Sounds incompatible. At least it sounds like they did not supply the correct laser, it should have fit with your clip you already had. I would sass them for a return and buy elsewhere. If it doesnt even mechanically fit, it seems like it never will. It would be like installing the new lite-on laser in a benQ, just not possible because of its physical shape and size. Sorry man, but i think you need to buy a whole different one.

I've been e-mailing a chinese seller of this lens and he says there's been no problems with his. Maybe it is supposed to come with some clip.
There's only 1 BenQ model of drive so it should work. The websites wouldn't sell it if it was incompatible.

I've been waiting on a reply from MrModChips for 2 days now. It's getting ridiculous.

MrModChips is refusing to replace the lens for me, saying it's my fault that I purchased the wrong one.
His website describes the lens as a "high quality replacement" so that implies that this lens is an upgrade for the standard lens. But no, according to him the BenQ VAD 6038 drive has 2 different lenses.

It's bullshit. I advise everybody to stop buying from this guy.
