well i did this a few days ago on a non rrod 360. before the replacement, the extra gpu heatsink would barely got warm, and now after the fix, it gets pretty warm. does this extra increase in temp mean that the as5 is working better than the old stock crap?

Yes. Heatsink temps should rise because there is better heat transfer from chip to heatsink.
