Microsoft Extends Warranty For 'E74' Failures
Posted by XanTium | April 14 08:13 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From Microsoft (via ve3d.ign.com):

While the majority of Xbox 360 owners continue to have a great experience with their console, we are aware that a very small percentage of our customers have reported receiving an error that displays "E74" on their screen. After investigating the issue, we have determined that the E74 error message can indicate the general hardware failure that is associated with three flashing red lights error on the console. As a result, we have decided to cover repairs related to the E74 error message under our three-year warranty program for certain general hardware failures that was announced in July 2007. We have already made improvements to the console that will reduce the likelihood of an occurrence of this issue.

Microsoft will refund to customers the amount paid for an out of warranty repair due to a general hardware failure associated with the e74 error message. Those customers should automatically receive the refund within 4-12 weeks, and no additional action by customers should be necessary. However, if a customer has not received a refund by July 1, 2009, the customer should visit www.xbox.com/support before November 1, 2009 for information on how to place a claim. All refund claims must be received on or before November 1, 2009.

About time although I don't know that 3 years is long enough to fix all the problems. I have consoles that are just over 3 years and now dying from rrod I don't have much confidence in the refurbishment process either.

It's always bad when they start out with

"While the majority of Xbox 360 owners continue to have a great experience with their console, we are aware that a very small percentage of our customers have reported "

What a steaming turd these things are. Been lucky enough to get E74 & RROD. Next is going to be dvd laser replacements. Already have 3 friends with retail firmware/discs and shot lasers. Seriously, I love playing my 360 but man, what a piece of utter junk. On #3 and I doubt it will be the last.

They say that the repair process has been improved, but I got a Zephyr back, I know you get back what you send in (a replacement mobo and DVD drive) but come on, the problem is never going to go away sending the same crap back.

Just called up to get it repaired. I almost took the matter (e74 0102) into my own hands (I gotta thank I was busy and couldn't find the time). Glad to hear that MS finally accepted this issue as a widespread problem smile.gif

I will report back what I get back, most likely the same, but you never know wink.gif.

Yea, Great...
The 360 is junk hardware, I didn't pay for these problems
and I do -expect- a warranty to cover Microsoft's irresponsible behavior.
So why the excitement?

Screw that shit. I have an elite that E74'd on me 2 weeks ago. I was past a year so Micro$uck told me it would cost 150 to fix. I tore into it to fix myself and now they come out with that crap. I wish they would extend their warranty to me as well

Microsoft Extends Warranty For 'E74' Failures

So what does that mean for ummm the average 360 owner who will never know about the warranty? The majority people who come to me don't even know abou tthe warranty. I don't think tha t Microsofts even sends out letters saying they extended the warranty. I guess peopel just try and fixes it them selves or send it to people in craigslist. Microsoft wins again. People do not know about their 3 rRod warranty.
