Xbox 360 Natal kits with THQ's developers, Sony PS3 'wands' not yet
Posted by XanTium | June 29 17:31 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From mirror.co.uk:

In an interview with G4's The Feed, THQ CEO Brian Farrell said the company had had Microsoft Xbox 360 Project Natal kits "for some time... four, six weeks, however long they've been available."

Farrell said that THQ had only had "discussions" with Sony over its PS3 wand kits and "don't have any of the actual, hands-on dev kits yet."

at the end of the article they say:
"Or that Sony’s technology is further behind than Microsoft’s. That seems unlikely, given the clarity of stage presentations the two companies managed at E3 – Sony’s was live, Microsoft’s was a pre-recorded demonstration. "

i thought that girl was jumping in front of a natal equipped xbox360 live on stage.
that was live, wasn't it?
did i miss something?

i am curious what the devs can/will do with these "new" toys.

It was either live, or really really really good in game footage with some sort of really great holographic technology

Especially since they had people walk up and use it at E3 (behind closed doors) and had it on Jimmy Fallon

They were obviously confused/mistaken in that article.

At the E3 press conference, there was pre-recorded footage of the Milo stuff as well as other actors like the one pretending to skateboard using Natal. BUT, there was a LOT of live demo action with that ball game and the painting.

But regardless, they also either forgot or didn't realize that the Milo and Burnout demos with Natal were 100% live and playable behind closed doors at E3 in the days after the MS press conference.

Sony's Wii-mote clone was a live demo, sure, but it was all tech demos, which prooves Sony is indeed far behind MS in their motion technology.

On another note, anyone who followed the E3 coverage from start to end would know that MS announced dev kits of Natal have been in the publishers for some time, so this whole article of MS having already shipped dev kits of Natal is very old news. Anyone surprised that the PS3 motion tech isn't in dev's hands shouldn't be surprised either considering all their demo was tech demos and they even said the whole wand they got is in extremely early stages.

I really got the impression from Sony's E3 conference that they are so early on in their development of their motion tech that I was questioning if I would have even announced it if I were Sony.

Anyway, I am looking forward to Natal's launch immensely, even though I'd bet it's about 1 year away (likely Fall 2010 I'd guess). Don't get me wrong, I think Sony's motion tech is cool too, even though it really is a LOT like Wii. It could ship by Christmas 2010 but at the point they're at now, it would likely be a rushed product I'd think. Think about it: only tech demos, extremely early prototype so far, and devs likely won't even have kits of it until next year.

This article just proves how far away Sony is from Microsoft with their motion technology. They dont even have a real name for it yet !! lol laugh.gif If they do have a name i dont know it so they obviously didnt do a good job at E3.

Natal is the codename/Project name. I'm sure it will be different on release.

Well even if Natal is a code name, at least they have something to call it by. Sony doesn't even have a code name that i know so it makes it more forgettable.

Uh.. What? So is the Natal hardware. They have a promotional picture of what it might resemble.

No need to be trolls, folks.

Both Microsoft and Sony have some cool motion technology on their hands.
