Is it possible to boot my Xbox from a CD to install stand-alone software?

Any suggestions or advice on how I could go about doing this?

The Xbox's HDD is already unlocked but not modded.

A standalone program - A program that does not require operating system's services to run.

I want to be to put FreeNAS on the xbox, but I cannot figure out a way to get the software to run on the Xbox.

FreeNAS's Website: http://www.freenas.org/

If the above is true you would get error screens when you boot the Xbox. A normal Xbox requires the HD to be locked.

You will have to mod the Xbox in order to run Linux on it.
