I'm in the process of buying a 360 and it's hard to find up to date information. So, I'm about to buy a black elite 360, and wondered if I can be sure it's possible to flash it.

And now that I've read about JTAG, I wonder if flashing it somehow makes it impossible to use homebrew as well?

That's a bummer. What drives are not flashable, and is there anything one can do? Is there a way to tell before you buy it? Wouldn't want to buy one and realize I got one with the wrong drive.

09c liteon is the unflashable drive

some have new shells with newer dates i had a liteon 74 repair dated 10-04-09 yesterday

new elites normally have the latest drives 09-c 8 series

buy a second hand box if your going to flash it save your cash 08 onwards should be safe of the rrod problem

may want to try to get a used one from gamestop. i would try to find a arcade made 1/09 to aug 09. you stand a good chance of getting a flashable drive and a jaspher board (less likely to get rrod). i dont follow jtag but the last i read you cant play any new games or get on live due to the jtag killing update

Thanks for making me depressed guys! wink.gif No, but really, it looks like I'll have to buy someone's disgusting old xbox then.

I assume the new drives will be flashed eventually, but I just can't wait that long.

So if I find one made pre august, I should be safe? Is it possible to see that when you're in the store?

You can see the Lot number on the box in store. Not sure if you can see enough of the label on the console though. If you can't see enough of the console label then make sure the lot number on the box is 0932x or earlier. 0932x is early august boxes but from what I've seen are flashable.
