I just got a copy of Splinter Cell off ebay and received it today. Now it is the Platinum Hits edition, can I still use this to softmod?

i beg to differ...I have been successfully using my platinum version to softmod for over two years now

Yes, I concur.

AFAIK, splinter cell was the only game (of the big 3) that can be used to modify an xbox regardless of the game version. The other 2 games capable of this were "fixed" in subsequent versions.
