I thought new dash update reenabled HDD installs. I have Alan wake and would assume it has new dash built in but still can't install

HDD installs were never disabled. Does your system recognize your HDD as a memory unit? (go to system settings >> memory)

Are you on a banned Xbox360?

Banned consoles had hdd install feature disabled. But the feature came back with the USB storage support update. This update may not be part of the current games on disc dash updates. Try plugging in a USB storage device and see if you can see it. If not you don't have the update. Just get it from the website.

I don't think Alan Wake has the lastest update on it (nor does any released game so far).
