I recently obtained a 360 from a friend and I believe the console had the DVD drive replaced without having the key loaded onto it so now it will only play movies, Is there any way to fix this so it will play games again? I heard you can retrieve the original Key from the motherboard or that i could use a modchip that can bypass the dvd drive key check, is there any truth to those? or is there some way i could flash the drive with some mod that will make it work? any help would be greatly appreciated, Thank You

Unless thats a JTAG'd kernel, then you can't retrieve the DVD key from that updated mobo sadly, so all the 360's good for is media streaming.....

I doubt its jtagged otherwise he wouldn't have it but I had the same problem once. I bought the console for $40 (apparently it was a jasper) but it had a hitachi dvd drive with the wrong key and kernel was 8955.

Nope - basically you need to have an exploitable 360 (the dashboard has to be a version prior to any 8XXX dash), JTAG , retrieve the CPU key and unencrypt the key vault to be able to get the original DVD key.
As your console on the 8995 dash, there's no way to JATG it and retrieve the CPU key, and therefore it's now only good as a media streamer or playing XBLA games sad.gif
