I believe there was even an app created specifically for this task and it never worked either
Well I might try to do a softmod today and do an Xbox to Xbox transfer (using a hub and a couple of ethernet cables rather than a crossover cable). I'll let you know how it goes.
The following probably doesn't apply here but is worth knowing about anyway.
All games should be patched with smo's patch to disable Xblive.
All MS dash .xbe's should be patched to block the network completely,
stopping dash updates which the first patch does not.
Please note that this last patch effects all .xbe's with the same titleID as the
MS dash. So if you are working on an MS dash mod (thc, blackstormx, etc), please
change your titleID if you are including any networking capabilities, such as FTP.
I noticed yesterday that Qwix has an option to change the titleID of the .xbe but... I think this wouldn't matter whatsoever with avalaunch anyway.

I know this is very late but for anyone coming here this might be useful.
I use Xbox to Xbox FTP quite a bit and up until quite recently I've been using the FTPClient app which can still be quite easily found. TBH it is pretty poor, slow and with a quirky GUI I've had more than a few problems with it. But then somebody on another forum pointed out that the UnleashX File Manager has a built in FTP browser.
I'm almost embarrassed to say I didn't know this as I've been using UnleashX for years. My excuse is that I've always thought it's built in FTP Client was broken. The FTP menu options have never appeared to me to do anything at all.
However if you use the UnleashX dash with the networking settings on Static but otherwise default (192.168.0.2) and connect up two Xboxes in the usual way via cross-over cable and go to UnleashX's File Manager instead , in its Start button context menu you'll now find a FTP Browser option. It really does work just like the rest of the excellent UnleashX File Manager normally does except the right side of the screen will be the host ie. other Xbox (192.168.0.3)
It is many time faster and more reliable than the FTPClient app so, even if your preferred dash is not UnleashX, install that as an app use it instead for Xbox to Xbox FTPing.
