WTF?

I recently updated the dash for Portal 2, and we've been playing that on a previously banned console. Today, we kicked it on to try out the co-op mode of Portal 2, and I noticed the updates to ads and such in the dash... and I was logged into Xbox Live.

My Gold membership long expired, but I'm in, and able to do stuff like download demos and such.

Very cool, if I've been given a second chance. Anybody else have this luck?

Yea I'm back online as well. Same boat though, no longer have Gold but have downloaded a couple demos/arcade trials/ chatted with friends (whom I havent played since Oct 31st 2009!)

Xbox does currently have an alert posted though, which may have something do to with this

I just received a message for a xbox live update on my jtag console. Never updated to 12625 so i'm not updating, but i guess i'm able to go online as well.

This is probably just temporarily, but lets wait and see what happens.

Looks like banned consoles can log into Silver memberships.

Interesting. I wonder if the rumors about the next dashboard flashing optical drive firmware is true (not sure how it does that with firmguard "protected" units), which this might be pretty smart on Microsoft's part.

If nothing else, they can get people to spend money online for DLC and XBLA games, that couldn't before.

Just for the People who may not know,I was unbanned last night on a old banned console everything bar game updates worked,Back this morning and the banned msg has come back when i try to sign in.

Well mines still playing the backups ive made just fine at the min but as i say back to being banned.
