Hi,
I think I'm in the correct section, but if not, please redirect me.... I'm looking to find the latest and greatest way to get a remote control working on my softmodded xbox. I've tried searching the forums, but I ALWAYS get an "Sorry, an error occured" message" so I use the google custom search as suggested and only seem to find posts from 03 and 04. I don't have an original Xbox DVD/remote kit. but I'm sure I can get one if need be.. Does anyone have any suggestion on how to get full remote control functionality on my xbox? I appreciate any and all help.

thanks-epi

You are talking about using a remote DVD controller in XBMC, correct? Well, you need to buy the Xbox DVD Remote Controller kit (it's cheap nowadays in some internet sites). This kit contains two parts: a receptor that you can plug where you use to connect the joypads, and the remote controller.

In fact, you "can" use a generic remote controller instead of the one of the kit... but in any case you need to buy the kit, because you need to have the other component (the receptor). SO, my advice is visiting some of the internet web pages that send everything, and search for "XBOX DVD". Be warned that the kit for the Xbox is different than the one for Xbox360. Be sure to buy the one for the Xbox, because the other one won't work.

It's really easy.

1. Buy an Xbox 1 remote control
2. Plug it in

Once you have the remote control and the receiver dongle you can try other remotes, but you need the receiver from the original remote. Make sure you buy an original MS remote, not a copy, because the copies don't work as well.

Ok, I know I need the dongle part of the kit at least cause it has the IR sensor. I must have misunderstood some of the old posts I was able to find.. I was under the impression that with a modded xbox, the DVD remote kit would no longer work, and that you had to dl some software and configure a keymapping.xml file or something... I just thought there might be some new standard setup for complete on/off, full control, remote control settings. or at least something more recent than 2004. I'll just get a kit and see if it works like I want it to... thx.

Here's a thread for example...

The DVD remote kit works fine with a modded Xbox, but some Xbox apps weren't written to understand the DVD remote commands. That thread has nothing to do with XBMC........ which was written to understand the DVD remote commands.
