I've read lots of rumors and unconfirmed info about this, so if anyone knows something accurate, please post.

So, does using CD-RW media on your Xbox cause some damage to it?
Why does this happen?
About how long would it take for the Xbox to become unusable because of this?

Yes after about 10 tries, or 5 minutes after you accept the mission impossible mission, the DVD tray begins to smoke and explodes.

Tell me why you think a set wavelength device would have to "strain" itself to read a CD-RW or a DVD-R? We've been over this quite a few times. If you adjust yout "pot" on the drive then you are asking for early burn out. If you use it as it is, it will be fine. The drive does not adjust it's energy output to refrequency the wavelength of the beam at will.

There's only one solution, you gotta spend loads and loads of money on new loads of Xbox's before the whole world is destroyed, hurry while there's time.

I've thought about this for a while, and I just have to know:

Tbird, the guy who claimed to be worried that the ROM laser would burn a hole through the top of his XBox: you WERE being ironic, weren't you? You never actually believed that?

Please don't tell me we have another GTac01 here. I think I'd go back to the Aibo boards.

I WISH he were only joking!!!

I was 16 hours into an intense Kabubi Warriors marathon when it happened! First, I sensed the small of burning plastic, then I heard a mightly yelp from the upstaris neighbor.

You see, it seems that the laser not only burned through the DVD-R, but also the top casing of my XBOX, the top of my entertainment center, the ceiling, AND my neighbor's couch!!!

He now has third-degree laser burns all over his ass!

It looks like it might be a while before Retard Monkey plays Kabuki Warriors for a while!!!!

First off, I cannot think of any technological reason as to how or why a CDRW disc could 'break' a working Xbox DVD drive.

That said, the last disc to be read on my Xbox was a CDRW drive (namely the "Ed's live linux .5" disc).

I have no idea if this is a coincidence, or just the fact that I bought my Xbox used (manufactured Nov 2001). I have no idea what life it this Xbox had before me. I used it for just over two weeks before it died. For the record, I installed a Bioxx in it shortly before it died (thankfully, otherwise I'd have not been able to do anything with it until I got the drive replaced).

No, I did not attempt any silly pot tweaks to make this happen.

Anyhow, I thought I would just add my $.02 to this, as no one else was able to come up with an actual case of this happening.

There are many reasons, not related to the DVD, CD-RW's etc. why this might happen.
