I have a Jasper jtag with the power supply circuit of the fan failure ...
instead of the usual 12V fan mod I would keep the fans powered at 5V (the voltage at which to start console "cold") for obvious reasons of noise (the heat is NOT a problem).

Since I removed the DVD player as the jtag ... I can use the 5V line of the DVD power connector to power the fans or there could be problems of "health" for the motherboard?

I looked for a DVD player, absorption: 12V 1.3A, 5V 0.6A

Delta stock fans, absorption: 12V 0.4A (both together or each? at worst 0.8A)

so ... with the reader removed the power connector of the DVD should provide at least 0.6A on 5V
at 12V absorption of the stock fan is 0.4A (0.8A or worse) but on 5V powered should draw less than half then about 0.2A (0.4A at worst)

if the southbridge may be damaged in case of high absorption of current, according to the previous parameters should be well within the limits of safety or... I am missing something?

Sounds like you have figured it out yourself. According to your findings it should be fine, but to be safe I would use the 12v line and a 5v regulator.
