I modded my friend's system a few years back when the JTAG hack first came out. I installed XeLL and got everything working. I was searching through the forums and google but there doesn't seem to be a concise way to upgrade the unit. I want to upgrade to the latest dashboard and DVD firmware. The xbox specs are as follows:

DVD: Philips VAD6038 with iXTREME 1.51 or 1.61
MB: Falcon 16MB NAND, phat unit
Dashboard: 2.0.8955.0

I did see few guides that said to use Free360 to dump the nand, then use Freeboot Toolbox to modify it with the CPU KEY, and then use Free360 to upgrade the nand. After I do that, I'm not sure how to proceed to update the dash to the latest one. I was going to upgrade the Philips DVD drive with the 870_LTPlus-benq-v3.0 file but the readme says that I should have the latest dashboard before doing so.

Any help would be appreciated.

I've just done exactly the same JTAG update - 8955 to 14719. Here's a post on how I did it, using my original NAND copy.

I can't help with the DVD firmware update at the moment.

Grab yourself "Flash360",.....run it and make a backup of your nand.
Make a copy of that and save it somewhere safe.
Then take the other and run it through bestpig's freeboot toolbox.
Now take the new image and flash it with flash360.
Check to see if avatars are there,...if not update with microsoft.....once they are there, proceed to dashlaunch.
As for dashlaunch, just download the latest to a usb stick, and install it with xex-menu or freestyle

Now just flash your drive to the latest firmware and your done!
