Once the tray closes, it appears to not lift the laser/spindle assembly correctly and then just re-opens. if i give a small tug on the spindle, it appears to be high enough and the laser enables to check for the presence of any disk. and the tray stays closed. but it will only do this once (maybe twice) before it goes back to not checking for a disk & simply re-opening.
here is a video that has a similar situation to what im talking about
(edit: skip to 2:30 to see the exact thing im referring to)
its an old arcade with a toshiba drive.
not sure if there is any further info needed but feel fee to ask any questions.
anyone have any ideas?
