Over 6 months ago a TFT LCD mod that one of our fellow modders had attempted never got finished. His project was to mount his 15.0'' Gateway Laptop screen into the lid of his xbox. He got as far as mounting it inside and making the hinge mechonism to open the lid. Sadly though, he failed because he couldnt understand the pin-outs of the screen.

Well today I took off where he let off. I found a company that makes controller cards for LCD screens that can convert any RGB/DVI/VGA signal into a 1024x768 or 1280x1024 to be displayed on a laptop. Soon, the screen will be mounted and my xbox will have a flip up LCD screen capable of HD resolutions smile.gif The HD pack from M$ can be hooked right into the controller card. All this will be concealed inside of the xbox. To save me room inside the xbox for all of the extra components ill be using a laptop harddrive. biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif This will really be a mod to see!

Took_The_Red_Pill: The HD pack has Stereo and Dolby 5.1 SPDIF Output which will be extended into ports that ill custom make on the back of the Xbox

I also know of a guide on how to solder a Coaxial Connector to the Xbox motherboard cool.gif

lol... I don't think there will be much demand for a tutorial of a $200+ dollar mod... don't get me wrong, it sounds like a sweet mod, just not one for the masses.

I got this quote from ALL AMERICAN a few months ago. I believe the DVI-1280 will be much more expensive than my quote. I think that controller is used for big 50" HDTVs. It would probably be more cost effective to take apart a desktop LCD. I have heard NEC 1550 screens are easy to take apart and are relatively cheap.

    AVP-1280
    304.00
    Panel Cable
    18.50
    Linfinity 1641 Inverter
    77.92
    Inverter Cable
    5.00
    Digital OSD kit
    29.87

ScifiKG: A few questions. I already have a inverter (came with the laptop LCD) so i dont need that brand right?

What were you going to use the controller for?

Did your LCD not come with a panel cable or do they just make new ones that fit both your LCD and their controller?

Ive not heard of the OSD Kit. Can you describe it? is it needed?

Thanks alot for helping me out. The NEC sounds good, but i think itll the AVP-1280 probably only cost me the $304.00 because if i already have the monitor cable and stock inverter , arent I good to go? The only thing I worry about is that my connectors on my LG LCD will fit the controllers ports. Even though it says its compatible, the pictures arent very detailed. Was that a fear of yours?

I also think that the AVP-1280 sounds better. More cost effective.

If someone can host some pics for me, maybe we could figure this out.

The OSD kit is a little board that has buttons and knobs so you can change brightness, color, etc. I don't think you need it, but it is very usefull. As far as an lcd, I was going to find a good Samsung LCD on ebay, and I was going to make sure it was compatable with the AVP-1280 by going to the digital view site and clicking the "I need a controller solution for my LCD" link. You might want to pick up the panel cable too if your woried that the LCD cable might not match up.
