I've seen on some websites selling DVD-Rs for general use and DVD-Rs for authoring. Could anybody inform me what the difference is?

Thanks in advance for the help.

For the indepth response, go here:

DVD Authoring Vs. DVD General

Its in .pdf format, so you'll need acrobat reader. VERY informative read. However, note this is created by Pioneer, so obviously they are going to recommend their drives. Do note, however, there are others.

Quick summary -- mainly they use a different laser wavelength for recording to the media. DVD Authoring can only be written by certain drives, but can be read by all. Most common, it's used to create the "gold" or "master" disks to be sent for duplication; and thus, more expensive.
