hi all , i am thinking of buying a xbox mainboard second hand, the xbox had been dropped and the bloke says 'as far as he's aware the mainboard is working' , in the event of the xbox being dropped what are the likelyhood of the mainboard being fine, i would assume that the thing to have gone would be the hard drive, what bleeps and flashes will the xbox give out to give some clues

cheers , help appreciated as always.. biggrin.gif

unless it was run over after being dropped ( or dropped from a tall building) it's unlikely the board is damaged. Both the cd and hard disc are much more vulnerable. Have him power it up and give you the error codes ( in the top right of the "your xbox needs service screen"... - there's an faq with error codes translated. - run a search after you get the codes).

If he won't power it up, run! - it's probably a skrood mod job he's playin' dumb about... wink.gif

If not the HDD is the most vunerable, which can be replaced
