Editing MTKFlash to Work With Your SATA Chipset
3 Step Guide to Get Your Drive Recognized

Will my Chipset work?
What drive do you have?
Hitachi: most likely but you wont be able to use mtkflash so you have no need for this tut.
MS25: as long as its not a sil then yes it will.
MS28: as long as its not a sil you can use the vcc trick, altho its a lot easier if you have a via sata chipset and use the 10sec trick.

Stuff you will need
HEX Editor (Hex Workshop is Recommended)
SATA Controller Card or an Onboard SATA Controller (Should tell you in your mobo/computer specs/manual)
If you do not have a SATA Controller You can most likely find one at your local Computer store or online (The Best to get is a Via VT6421l, http://froogle.google.com/froogle?sourceid=navclient-ff&rls=DVFC,DVFC:1970--2,DVFC:en&q=Via+Vt6421l&oe=UTF-8&lmode=online&scoring=p)


1. Finding out What SATA Chipset You Have
If you have a SATA Controller Card it should say on the Box, In the Manual or on The Chip itself, If you have a Onboard Check your mobo/Computer Manufacturers Website

Example:

2. Finding The Correct Values
Install your SATA Controller's Driver (If it isn't Already Installed).

You will need to Open up MSInfo32.exe (Start>Run, Type "MSinfo32.exe" w/o Quotes, Press OK), with MSinfo open (Should Look Something Like http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a246/Grim187/msinfo32.jpg) Click the + next to "Components", Click the + next to "Storage" Now Click on SCSI (Some Chipsets Have this Info under IDE) You Should See Something That looks Like This

Manufacturer
Status OK
PNP Device ID PCI\VEN_2211&DEV_4433&SUBSYS_31491106&REV_80\3&61AAA01&0&78
I/O Port 0x00006655-0x000066A2
I/O Port 0x00000000-0x00000003

Driver c:\windows\system32\drivers\driver.sys (5.1.2600.201, 74.63 KB (76,416 bytes), 5/15/2006 7:00 AM)

All of that Should Look Different in Your Info, Next to Name it Should Say Something About "Serial ATA" if it Doesn't Try Scrolling Down, Make Sure Your in the Right Place or Check in IDE,
What You Are looking For in This is 8bytes (16 Numbers/Letters) That MTKFlash Can Identify Your Chipset with, The First 4bytes are Found in The "PNP Device ID" (2 Numbers/Letters = one byte)

PNP Device ID PCI\VEN_2211&DEV_4433&SUBSYS_31491106&REV_80\3&61AAA01&0&78

So From This Example Your Line So Far Should be 11223344 (Need it Explained Better? Click http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a246/Grim187/ByteSwitch.jpg)
The Next 4Bytes are Found in 2 Different Lines of "I/O Port" Hex Values, You Want to Identify The 2 Lines That Have a 7Byte Difference (These are Commonly the 1st and 3rd Lines), Extract the Last 4 Digits of the First Section of Numbers/Letters from Them and Swap the 2 Bytes (As You did with The "PNP Device ID" Line)

I/O Port 0x00006655-0x000066A2
I/O Port 0x00008877-0x000088A4

This is Only Known to Work if You Use The 2 "I/O Port" lines With a Difference of 7 in Order (as Shown Above) (Altho some Don't have a Difference of 7, In this Case Just Use lines 1 and 3 as if they had a Difference of 7), As They are Values for The Master and Slave Channels of The SATA Controller,
So in this Example Your line Should be 55667788 (Need it Explained Better? Click http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a246/Grim187/ByteSwitch2.jpg),
Put Together The 4bytes of Hex (8 Numbers/Letters) That You Have From The "PNP Device ID" Line and the 4 You have from The "I/O Port" Lines and You Have The Values You Need to Insert in to Your MTKFlash.exe File.


3. Injecting Chipset's Hex Values

Now Open up MTKFlash.exe in Your Hex Editor (Hex Workshop: Right Click on the file and Click "Hex Edit using Hex Workshop"), Your Hex Editor Should have a Goto Function (Hex Workshop: Ctrl+g (If your Hex Editing Program doesn't have this Function Scroll to the Bottom and look for Chipset Names) Open it and put in B370 in Hex, Make Sure You have it "Start at the Beginning" of the file, Once here you should See in the Text part, The Names of ChipSets ICH5,VIA8237,NV NForce3,ect. (Should Look Something Like http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a246/Grim187/MTKFlashinHex.jpg),
If Your Chipset is in Here that's Good You can compare the Actual Hex Value's to the ones "On File" and if There not the Same Change What you Need to, The Info for a Chipset is 1byte (2 00's In Hex) Before the Name of That Chipset (in TXT),If Your Chipset is Not Here You Can Just Edit one That is (I do Not Recommend Creating a New one), For Example Say i Have a VIA8237 Chipset These are The Values That i Would Edit (Don't Edit the 00 in RED)

I know there's still a lot of people having trouble getting mtkflash to recognize there 360 drive, although this is not a tutorial on getting your drive recognized I am here to help so for all of you guys still having trouble try these steps:

1.Unplug Sata Cable

2.Boot to dos

3.Boot to dash

4.Connect Sata Cable

5.Run "MTKFlash r /m /sata orig.bin" (if your chipset info shows up here Select it, if it doesn't continue with 6 and 7)

6.Hit ESC

7.Run "MTKFlash r /m sata orig.bin"

make sure to only select the name of your chipset(or the one that you edited the values in under), if it doesn't show up the 2x then try a 3 time, if it still hasn't shown up then you need to go back to editing mtkflash(try editing in "F001 7001" as the last 4 digits)


If you are Having Problems Dumping/Flashing your MS28 Drives Firmware and Have a Via Chipset Try These Steps

1. After Running MTKFlash (with your chipset as an option) Turn off your Drive

2. Select your Chipset in MTKFlash

3. Quickly Turn the Drive Back on (you only have 10sec After making the selection to turn the drive back on)

I have Heard of Limited Success using this Method on Chipsets Other then VIA


I Recommend using a Newer (Brand New is the Best) Floppy disk as you will be writing your firmware on to it and will need it to be error free and i suggest that you only write to your drive from your hdd or Thumb Drive not a floppy (you want the lease amount of errors when writing back)

Write from HDD Mini-TUT

1. put the file you want to write and your edited MTKFlash in the main Dir of your hdd (usually C:\)

2.1. If you have a Fat Partition: Run dos, at the A:\ Prompt type "C:\" (with out quotes) and you should now have a C:\ prompt

2.2 if you have a NTFS Partition: Download NTFS Dos http://www.sysinternals.com/Files/NtfsDos.zip, extract all the files from the zip file to the floppy, boot in to dos, type "ntfsdos" (without quotes) and hit enter, it will run and mount your hdd (usually D:) then type in the drive letter (Example: D:\) and hit enter,

3. now Run MTKFlash and Flash your TS Drives Firmware

i guess i have no scsi driver installed on my computer because i get no information at all when selecting system information components ans then selecting scsi the information is blank! I currently have a sata harddrive connected and its my main harddrive but system info doesnt like to show me anything!

I have a ms-7184 motherboard and a ati ixp 450 southbridge now where do i get the drivers for viewing sata system info so i could have my 360 drive found when using mtkflash!

But when i look at ur images u have edited some text before VIA8237 where does that come from ?

Cause when i do mtkflash.exe /sata it says no device found as usual

I was having the same problems with detection as well.
This is what i did, also this flasher works with the via pci cards as i have the same numbers as below

Disable all ide channels in bios
shutdown pc, then take out all ide cables.
plug in a sata hdd drive on to port 0 (i used xbox360 drive)
boot pc and this hdd will get detected
type in the comand mtkflash r /m orig.bin
power xbox 360 up with no sata cable, leave for 20 secs
take sata cable out of hdd and plug in to tosh dvd
hit return and pick channel 0 this will now read from dvd drive.


This worked for me and it looks like i have the same via card as others
just use the mtkflash link as i tried others and edited ones but this is the only one that would read

hardware... getting a Hitachi in return sounds nice or not but atleast they have start working on firmwire to the hitachi/LG drive

i have had major problems with 360's with the hitachi drive (it shuts in the middle of game play(most of the time), this will be my 7th one (only had 2 TS's)

Just a couple quick questions and any help would be greatly appreciated i have a sony vaio with no floppy drive not even a spot to connect one on the motherboard so i gotta boot from cd or memstick and for some reason when ever i try memstick it freezes but the problem is this sony has ide cd-rom drives and 4 sata ports (intel ich6) for the hard drives... but everything i read says disconnect all ide channels but then i cant't boot and this is my only pc with sata... but whenever i run mkflash and pick eiether master or slave it just hangs... any ideas do i need to edit mkflash or am i just screwed on this pc since i gotta boot from an ide drive... and if thats the case could i format a sata hd and boot from that with just dos on it...? thanks in advance

hi there been following these forums for a while now but im mostly a reader not a poster
im wondering if someone could help me out
ive tried atleast 50+times now to flash my drive without look cant even get the original bin file from the drive
ok this is my specs

asus a8n-sli premium nforce 4 with onboard sil3114 sata
i also have a via vt621 pci sata raid card
ts drive hw04 with firmware ms25 as stated on drive itself
ive edited mtkflash many times before using the method in the tutorial 1stly for the nforce 4 and also for the via chipset pci card
am i doing something wrong cause when ever i type mtkflash r /m orig.bin or other variations of that inc mtkflash r /sata /m orig.bin etc it asks to pick a channel and always shows either via or the nf4sat2 depending which 1 i use but then which ever i choose it just has a flashing _ but nothing else
ive tried hotswopping and many variations of booting xbox with and without sata attached just always same thing
at 1st i thought it was my mobo sata at fault so i went and bought a pci card with the exact chitset said to work ie via vt6421

here is my drives id no.s etc and how i entered them into mtkflash can someone have a look and tell me if anything ive done is wrong

Right click Save as for the people with "VIA VT6421 SATA RAID CONTROLLER PCI" this has worked before hopefully it will work for you guys too

hello ppl, can i get your help?

I have a Sata chipset - Intel 82801GR/GH Sata Raid controller on an ABIT AL8 motherboard.

Can anyone confirm that this sata controller works with mtkflash? (read as much as I can on the forum)

I've tried editing mtkflash with hex editor and still no joy (altho I'm not convinced I knew what I was doing!)

The error message I keep getting is as follows:- "Failed to identify flash type" and the 360 led flashes until I swith it off.

Any help wud b much appreciated.

I changed the mtkflash with the hex editor disable all ide and just plug in the toshiba dvd rom...with the edited ide the comp was like frozen with the original mtkflash it said nothing was found..

I cant get my mktflash to recognize the drive to dump the firmware, I spent most of the night, reading the post. I have booted with all IDE channels disabled, Connected XBOX Toshiba Drive with sata no power,
boot to floppy, then power up the 360 when I get the prompt. Type in the mtkflash r backup.bin. Also tried the /sata command. None of these work. I am sure this can work if I can get some help on this hex edit ( which I am not too familiar with by the way.) I was wondering could you use my info to make a screenshot of how it would look correctly in Hexedit? Or if you can edit MKTFlash for me and email it to me if possible or post on a share site like rapidshare?

I know I`m asking alot, but I dont want to brick it,and I will use the info you give me to get this down..
I can do everything hacking the Xbox ( i post on slayers forum all the time) I was just hoping you can lend a 360 N00b a helping hand?

I am using an Nforce4 and also a regular mtkflash.exe file.

My best reslut so far....

I can disable everything but the floppy and xbox drive in the bios

I am able to recognize the drive with mtkflash

I select master sata

Then the cursor will either hang or it will give some port info...

Has ANYON actually gotten the board/chipset to work?

Heres how I done it


I was pulling my hair out trying to get this to work.But I found the solution thanks to Grim and a Lot of patience..

Hook up your Toshiba DVD Drive (no Power) to the sata channel that your hard drive was on.Make sure that no other IDE devices are connected.

Load up your boot floppy,make sure to use the MKT flash for ALI chipset! (Do a little reading in Grims forum,he posts a link to it)

Dont ask me why it works this way it just does!

when you get to the prompt A:> POWER UP YOUR XBOX!
Then type in dir (dos commmand for directory)

It will list all the files on your floppy

From here at the next prompt type

mktflash r backup.bin


It should begin to backup your firmware file!

Follow the same steps when you go to flash the firmware, but use the flash command
mktflash w xtreme.bin (you should have edited this with the security key from you original firmware.


Thats it !

I tried this on TWO different ALi chipset and they both worked with this procedure,

I hope this helps everyone who has been having issues with this chipset!

Okay as stated before i have a samsung drive FW MS25.... I believe more and more that this is the reason why it can't be flashed (othe people keep reporting the same problem).... In all the other threads i read so far it said FW MN25....

One more thing: i'm using a pen drive (usb stick) to boot into DOS

tried all variations inc boot from floppy and kingston usb drive
also tried every variation of mtkflash inc editing all the possibilitys
ive all but given up now only thing left for me to try is the new connectivity kit coming out that has a debug mode on it im hopeing it either flashes in dos or that with debug mode so drive is recognised in windows someone will bring a windows gui out

okay,

got a short question about mtkflash

like i said i already altered my exe but here's one thing

on my NF4Sat2 the values are shown like this

00DE 1055 00E0 0960 0900

so the bold part is the correct value but it is not in 4 separate digit-blocks cause the first and the last 2 numbers of the value are in a "different" block.

Do i need to change that ?

just wanted to let u know i finally managed to extract the FW and flash the drive but it still doesn't work.

Here's how i did it:

Like stated before initially i booted from a PEN DRIVE (which was probaly the mistake) and saw the 360 drive in DOS but as soon as i selected it mtkflash hang up (gave me one line and then a blinking cursor).

So i did what PETER (thanx a lot, buddy) stated - i created a FAT32 partition on my HD placed all MTK Files there (in my case my hexedited MTKNF4 - the one that u sent me wouldn't work, Grim - but mine worked - THANX for your efforts anyway) and booted into DOS with Hirens Boot CD

Then i ran MTK from that Fat32 partition and i managed to extract the FW with the command

mtkflash r orig.bin

When i opened the original FW in Hex Workshop to copy the sector 4000-4200 from my original 360 FW into the xtreme.bin i saw that those were the exact same values already in the xtreme.bin file !!!

I checked it 20 times and the sectors 4000-4200 had already the values that i wanted to paste in from my original 360FW. I did it anyway - flashed the Samsung Drive.

When i placed an original Halo2 xbox1 dvd in the drive (which worked perfectly on my 360 before) the dvd drive started to play an xbox commercial from the dvd but didn't start the game - it came to a screen which said:
This is an xbox game dvd. Please insert the disc into your xbox to play. - So basically the "patched" Samsung Drive acted like a PC Drive, not as a xbox Drive.

First i thought i extracted the FW from my PC DVD Drive (Plextor) and flashed it on the 360 Samsung but then the Samsung wouldn't have played the xbox commercial from the DVD - u probably would have gotten a brick.

So I just re-flashed the original FW back on the Samsung and it works perfectly again. I wanted to try a backup before i did this but CloneCD always gave me error messages like:

Error opening File Layerbreak=1913760
The system cannot find the specified file.

But the file is in the same folder and the .dvd file looked good in notepad with the right filename.


Anybody experience with that ?

Why was the FW key the same values as in the xtreme.bin file ?

Are there any other methods to extract the FW key than manualy ? Somebody mentioned a KDX way....

1. Its not always in the same place, Ive heard people say there can be a couple bogus ones in there, you should do a search and read up then post your question in the main category to get some help with that

2. Go Thu the DVD decrypter tut in my sig, it tells you that you have to delete that line out

3. You have to Remember that I'm only going by what i have learned from reading, i still don't have a working 360 to try this on (sending in #7 on Monday)

4. I'm glad you got it working, any ferther questions you have can be answered by other people since your matters no longer concern Editing MTKFlash

Grim, finally gave up on the ATI. Got a creative labs with the Via 6421L and used the via modified mtkflash and everything worked like a charm. One suggestion for all you guys. Call your local small-town computer store and ask them about what PCI controllers they have in stock. That's what I did and 5 minutes later I wa up and running.

Has anyone gotten it to work with an ATI Radeon Xpress 200 chipset? I saw a few other people didn't. I tried to hexedit MTKFlash but when I run MSINFO nothing is listed under SCSI?

I didnt see anything in MSINFO that mentioned serial ATA.

The computer is a Compaw SR1710NX with an Asus A8AE-LE motherboard.

Any Ideas?

ATI Radeon Xpress 200 is a video card. It has absolutely nothing to do with SATA or anything that would ever have anything to do with hacking the XBox 360 DVD firmware. You're an idiot...sorry for the flames, honestly.

I was having problems looking for the 7 byte sets. When I had my IDE PCI card in it did not work and gave me different IO port address's I tried to hex edit them in and would always lock up after it mtkflash loaded, all the boot procedures I tried yielded the same results.

That is all that is listed. Nothing is listed on SCSI. The only hard drive in the machine is a SATA hard drive. I have installed the newest chipset drivers (which include SATA drivers) but I still do not see any Serial ATA info listed.

check in Components > Ports > Serial , that's the only other place that it might be, if its not there i don't know what to tell you

Thanks man for rying to help, I checked there and nothing is listed but the internal modem in the "Serial" section.

Hopefully someone else with this chipset has played with it. Otherwise I'll just go out and buy a PCI Sata controller.

The Motherborad bios detects the TS drive fine. It's just MTKFlash that is not set up to work with it.

I think there are other links to the VIA mtkflash hack floating around the forums, but if it helps any you can do it yourself extremely easily. Grab the free version of Hex Workshop Editor, go to line 0000b3d0 (hex) and change the 31 to a 32. That's it. I can confirm first hand that works with the VIA VT6421 raid controller.

Hey. I can't seem to figure out how to edit mktflash by myself. I've tried and tried and tried but nothing seems to work. I'm wondering if someone could walk me through the editing process...My understanding is that I should edit mtkflash to read 0611 4931 0098 00A0

I've done the edit and saved it...My PC will still not recognize the drive and my computer locks up when I press enter to run the mtkflash command. So, here is my info...Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

One more thing I didnt really understand. Yes I know people say that a Sil3112 image doesnt work, but it works in some cases right? Like with Hitachi Drives, because thats what I have.

the 360 drive is recognized in bios when connected to onboard sata connection but not with mtkflash. i show no info in the "SCSI" this is from "IDE". Can someone help me out a lil please.

2-slave
i select either then i hangs with port:170 a0

Hi im using an auto install for usb pen drives (i have no floppy disk drive).....
Its a bit twitchy takes 2-5 reboots at least to get booted ready to use flash tool.

its taken over 50 reboots before my xbox drive was reconised and i extracted orig.bin.
patched the firmware ready for reflashing to my drive, but first i want the 0800 bin file flashed for backing up.

checked the motherboard and i cant see anything that says ICH7r . i looked in the instruction booklet and it says southbridge: intel ICH7

i know its a dumb question but what do i do with this number - 8680 C027 00D4 00DC

got it to read, write firmwares now, but windows is freezing on bootup, or if i wait till windows is loaded. The desktop freezes.

Firstly, thank you for a superb Hex Editing guide. It was concise and invaluable to someone like me who has never even attemped this before.
As per your instructions i have edited mtkflash, seemingly successfully ie: progressed beyond the "drive not recognised" error.
However, after i execute the dump command dos reports "Reading...xx%" but always hangs and the 360 ring of light begins to flash constantly. I have never got beyond 5% of a complete dump.
I wonder if i have configured the wrong i/o ports while hex editing mtkflash because when i hit escape after it hangs i recieve the following error

I retrieved my dvd key, but when I open the orig.bin with kdx my dvd key appears to be ff ff ff ff etc. Does not look like an unique key to me. Anyone got an idea what I did wrong.

I am using a asus a7n8x deluxe motherboard and a pci via vt6241 sata controller, changed 0611 4931 into 0611 4932 and left everything else unchaned in mtkflash.

the 360 drive is recognized in bios when connected to onboard sata connection but not with mtkflash. i show no info in the "SCSI" this is from "IDE". Can someone help me out a lil please.
when i run mtkflash: i get select 1-master
2-slave
i select either then i hangs with port:170 a0

install your sata controllers driver, then edit mtkflash, and don't plug in your ts drive until your in dos

Hello,
I am having trouble getting mtkflash to detect my 360 dvd drive. It keeps on saying "No Drive Found"..
I took out all the ide cables and still nothing but that message. I tried another time and left all IDE cables connected
and got a port 170 master/slave ..a0 error thingy. I tried the modified mtkflash also and got the same results..
Im thinking about trying it out on another computer but I was hoping someone can help me find the correct hex code which may possibly work.. Thanks in advance!

Hmmm, I've got an ATi Radeon Xpress 200 chipset and my SATA info is showing up in SCSI. Still cannot get it working though. Heres my info:

I have an Albatron 865 motherboard with ICH5 chipset (the simple Non-RAID version)
When browsing MSinfo32.exe there's nothing on the SCSI section only on IDE
It seems that my SATA HD is connected in this controller (shown on the IDE section)

I tried to edit the mtkflash.exe with this code 8680 D124 00C0 00C8 but I keep getting the c0:Master/slave :a0 error...

Is there an issue with the non_RAID ICH5 chip (found mostly on 865 boards)? It seems like being a pseudo-IDE and not a real SATA controller.
Has anyone succesfully completed flash with one of these motherboards? Any idea would be helpfull

Thanks!! i think it worked... it read up to 100% 3 times.. i extracted the key then flash it and it said banks 1-3 "ok"..

if may ask.. what did you do to the mtkflash? learning process for me..

That's my info, and you've already given me an edited mtkflash file...

It seems to work the best it has been so far, but I am still running into that port 70 error...Or whatever...

I am plugging my 360 drive directly into my motherboard...Should I be using a SATA PCI card as well? What would be guarenteed to work?

It will take me a while before I get up and running...My Xbox got the 3 red lights the other day...What a pain...Anyways, I would love to get this up and running, but I'm completely stumped!

Would you be kind enough to reply with the full hex code i need to edit for my card to work? I changed the 4931 to 4932 but its still not working. I'd like to change the remaining 8 chars and see if that works. I just dont understand hex enough to see if theres a 7byte difference. ;(

Above is what I have, from PCI\VEN_1106&DEV_3249&SUBSYS_32491106&REV_50\3&61AAA01&0&50 I get 0611 4932

But I can't work out the IO part, if some one can see what is required please let me know.

I have just changed the PNP part of the hex but the drive is still not recognised. The only other thing I am un sure about is setting the card to native/ide. Because I haven't got other any sata devices I can't change it in the bios as there is nothing to change. Advice on this also please.

i have a Silicone Image 3112 PCI SATA RAID card flashed eith latest RAID bios can i flash this RAID card with normal IDE bios to stop it from being raid for i cannot seem to diasable RAID anywhere were is the option to disable it
and can someone tell me where the 2 lines were there is the 7 byte difference is on the i/o lines for i found the first but i dont understand HEX so wats the second:

I'm having a nightmare of a time with this.

I am doing this to a Toshiba/Samsung drive.

My on board sata chipset is the VIA8237. It seems from all the reading I have done that it should work, but then again most people are very lazy in there posting and don't specify the drive they used it on.

Yes I am in native IDE, not raid mode.

I have hexed my MTKflash with 0611493100B800C0

From what I have gatherd, everything looks good to this point.

Now when I run MTKFLASH and prompt <<mtkflash r /m orig.bin>> it sees the drive, looks like it starts to read it, but never does anything past that. I never get a count down or anything. I have let it sit there for over and hour to no avail. I have done everything I know to do, trying it with my other IDE connections hooked up, with them all unhooked, some hooked up, is driving me nuts!

I have tried several diffrent cables, several diffrent ports, everything!


If anyone has any ideas I would be soooo greatful. I would even give ya some $$$.

I have been to ev ery computer store in town, 6 of em, and they all have the same craptacular SI chipset cheap looking sata controller cards. The funny thing about it is they want 50-70$ for a card they ppaid 10-15$ for.

Thanks for the help Grim, but I have given up, I purchased a VIA chipset SATA PCI controller from newegg.com. I used the edited mtkflash you posted earliar and now when I boot up its only detecting the DVD-ROM drives I have installed. Did I do something wrong again? Raid is disable.

I used the edited MTKFlash to work with my Via 6421 chipset, but when I read the firmware, the firmware is only 128kb. Anyone knows why?

It wasn't reading the good device. Sorry! It ain't able to dectect my 360 frive though.

I tried the mtkflash modified to wrok with the via chipset but it ain't able to detect any drive. I tried plugging the xbox 360 sata cable in the card, then start msdos, then boot the 360, then run mtkflash. Boot the pc with the xbox 360 already booted.

Anyone has idea on how I could get this working?

OK, I hope someone can give me some input as to what the problem may be. I have 2 Samsung drives (FW ms19 and FW ms25 and with different dates 8/05 & 3/06). After several experiments, attempts, configurations & days, I got the first FWms25 drive to read, flash and work great with my backups.

I went back to read the second FWms19 drive a couple of days later with the same setup & procedure as the first...and I get this error/lock. (I wrote my process down, so I would have to spend days trying again.)

From my understanding the SATA card is waiting for a code 70 from the Samsung drive on the Master Port DF00...

hello all im having a problem with flashing my drive i have looked at the tu on how to edit the MTKFLASH and i just get lost half way though. I only connect the xbox drive once booted to dos, tried native ide & sata. Any ideas or can you recomment a motherboard that defo works ?

I have no problem with mtkflash regoconising my drive, but when I boot to dos & run mtkflash, it keeps hanging.

In DOS

i found out where i went wrong.. i was using KDX without using the patch on the original xtreme firmware... now ive gotten originals to read with xtreme, and recognized in windows with 0800, just keep getting an error in dvdinfo trying to unlock the drive... as soon as i get a successful rip ill call it quits for the night.. been on this shit all day.

this is what I have been doing
"disconnect sata cable
boot dos
boot 360
connect sata cable
run "MTKFlash r /m /sata orig.bin"
don't select anything (your sata chipset name wont show up(if it dose there you go)
hit esc
run "MTKFlash r /m /sata orig.bin" also tried just "MTKFlash r /m /sata orig.bin"

but same result.

I have been using the mtkflash grim mentioned in a previous post
"are you sure your using http://www.1001megs.com/members/grim187/MTKFLASHvia32.zip"

what i'm doing wrong?

also is there something that should tell me drive has been detected/

ok...i was able to retrieve the firmware and made several copies.

the problem that i'm having now it that when i try to load it
using kdx1.5 i get "wrong firmware file"
the file size 512kb and name" orig.bin

what should i fix this issue? thanks

using the 520c drivers.

gotta admit.. alot of struggles, but it seems like smooth sailing at this point... just have to wait for my burner to get the final results.

the only thing currently conect to my PCI SATA card the xbox360 drive
when retrieving the firmware and selecting master, is it possible that it will retrieve the firmware from my computer hd instead.

I redump and compaire 3-5 different dumps with each other, and all of them 512kb and compared it in hex workshop and all have the same values.

I then proceded to flash the drive....I tested the xbox and is able to play my original, still need to try backups....


but I think it actually flashed my HD in my computer. WHen I boot up it just hands...

without the xbox drive hooked up, I ran the reflash process with the orig.bin (original file)...it when through the process updating...and now my pc boots up.

How do I make sure is the xbox drive that i'm targeting?:

Hi ok, ive flashed my hitachi drive 360 no problems at all, but cant flash my toshiba one, ive a a8n-sli mobo ive read through all tutorial twice! , used the nf4 version of mtkflash made sure that the hex numbers are correct , ive also tried powering on the the drive once dos is up and running etc etc and all i get is mtkflash hanging.... to which i press the "escape" key and the error 9e0 master/slave a0 status = 00 should be 70 ....any help anyone? ...or is it a case of get hold of a via 6431 sata card!?
