I have tried to backup my PAL ETM to DVD-R.

Having followed the instructions to create an iso for each character I have attempted to burn using a pioneer a05 on datawrite classic red 4x media at 1x with overburn set to 5000.
But I still get a buffer underrun when burning (I have only tried the Niobe iso so far).

Any thoughts on what I need to do? Do I need to use the long filename patch or is this only for those trying to run from HDD?

Cheers.

Buffer underrun has nothing to do with what you are burning.

Did you get a buffer underrun before you tried to overburn? If you did, it's your system, either hardware, or software config/install.

If you only get it after trying to do an overburn, my guess is you just can't do an overburn with that drive/media combination and your burning software is reporting the error incorrectly as a buffer underun.

These days (with buffer underrun prevention built into every drive) you should never see a buffer underrun error. They were common in the earlier days of CD-RW drives before burn-proof and other similar technologies were developed.

Thanks, that makes sense. For reference the recording software I am using is RecordNowMax 4.5 which in theory has underrun protection.

I did get one underrun before trying overburn, that was again when trying to backup ETM.
I then defragged my PC HDD and closed down all erroneous progs in the background.
Prior to installing my Pioneer A05 I also converted all my HDD partitions to NTFS.

Result = Same prob.

Since my initial post I have found a reference to the MS Knowledge Base regarding DMA on the Stomp support forum. I've not had cause to tinker with that before but will give it a go.

Anyone want me to post the outcome?

Still no joy on this problem.

I have found that UDMA66 was not enabled on my machine, and have since enabled it. Drive access times seem to have improved, especially in directories with a very large number of files. I have also checked the IDE controller settings and BIOS settings to ensure they are set to utilise UDMA.

I am now confused as to wether or not the Pioneer A05/DVR105 supports burnproof or not. Using RecordNowMax the burnproof option should appear under Tools > Options > General if, and only if, the currently selected drive supports burnproof. I see no such option which would indicate according to Stomp that the drive isn't burnproof.

However, having looked at the supported drive list for Nero http://www.nero.com/en/content2/recorderP.html it lists the A05 as being burnproof when using Nero.

Also, RecordNowMax allows me to enable overburn. Whereas Nero's webiste indicates that overburn is not possible. WTF???

My next plan of action will be to install Nero and see what happens for myself.

If anyone has any further sugesstions of config changes to try I'd welcome them.

What mode is your A05 running? UDMA or PIO, try it with one if you still get the problem then try it with the other.

A05 does support burn proof as I have it on my A04 and there not going to take it off on a higher model. wink.gif

Having never tried overburn I don't know if it this, but dbout it.

What is you PC setup?
MOBO bios uptodate?
What HDD?
OS?
CPU?
