Hey everyone,

I have just discovered the real reason today of E73 or the cause of E74. I believe it has nothing to do with the enthernet port. The reason for it occuring after heatgunning sometimes is if it gets to hot some little rectangles on the bottom of the board near the GPU area fall off. They are very small and nearly impossible to find, but even if you find it, it would be nearly impossible to soilider back on. My question is what do these things do, I believe they can't do much because they are incredibly small. What happens if I just use solider to connect the two points togeather. I am lost and I think it will be impossible to fix or solider back on.

I will have pictures soon of the mssing parts. I am missing 3 small ones which are located directly on the bottom of the GPU.

AT THE MOMENT I AM LOST AND DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO??? ANY ADVICE WILL BE HELPFUL smile.gif

Those little squares your talking about are Surface mount resistors or capacitors...

Heatgunning can cause untold damage to all the parts on the board, depending on how hot you let it all get... Its hard to say what would have caused when you took a heatgun to the board...

The ones sitting directly underneath the GPU are capacitors, as far as I know they are there to filter the power supply to the GPU (could be wrong though, im taking a bit of a guess)... Also, as fair as I knew they are all in parallel, so loosing one or two of them shouldnt make too much difference... But yes they are damn small and are extremely hard to find...

To be honest, Id say scrap the board and get another one... It sounds like something in it has gone severly wrong, and heatgunning it more wont help... 360 boards are so complex that its nearly impossible for the average person to track down problems with them... Hence the reason why most error codes are mostly unknown cool.gif

Thankyou for your reply, I am taking your advice, I am buying a new 360 for christmas. I am just trying to fix this 360 because it;s a friends. I am just wondering if i just solder the point that came off just using solider. Would that wsork???? Is this the reason for me getting E73???

Thanks

Soldering those points together will most likely cause a short, normally missing one or two, (if they are capacitors shouldn't really matter) there must be something else wrong.

If the board was heated to the point where components were falling off then there definitely something else wrong, just a thought.

Ah found the thread you were speaking about tongue.gif

Ye could be caused by one of the resistors missing as well, maybe caps as well though it will be rare.
A short would cause 0021, so if you bridge the points this would very likely be what you get next...

You could try soldering em back on though if not too many have fallen off in the worst case that you cant find em I could desolder them from a fucked up mobo and ship em to you if you want me to as well, just send me a PM...

Will add this to the error code guide as a cause and update the error page for -> E73 though and add you as a reference, thanks for sharing.

Hey,

Thanks for the reply, only 2 small resistor or whatever on the bottom of the GPU have fallen off, could that be the problem. If not thankyou because I thought the motherboard was F***ED up. No capicitors have fallen off, because i followed your guide carefully and will attempt to do it again. Could I also please have a link to your error code guide.

Thankyou Wilhelm_I and everybody else from this topic for your help
