Is there anything that the 3 n64 emulators on xbox that came before Surreal (Daedalus-X, Ultra XLE, Project 64x) can do that Surreal cannot? Like do they run any certain games better than Surreal at the moment? I'm gonna be modding my xbox in a couple days and i just wanna know if its even worthwhile putting the older n64 emulators on the xbox to begin with now that Surreal is around.

Excite Bike 64 runs a lot faster on pj64-x, though it is still unplayble.

Well Wipeout ran at the right speed but with really screwed up graphics (It was more playable but it was horrible). I haven't found a rom yet that plays better with the any of the previous emulators there have been 5 previous emulators

Daedalus (leaked very early, buggy, crashed constantly, no sound by the original author)
Daedalus .06 & then .1 (which crashed constantly played little and also had no sound by Hikaru)
PJ64-x .6 & .7 (which had sound, reasonable compatiblity but lots of issues)
Ultraxle (which ran beautifully and was the first to run Zelda with sound but crashed occasionally, oDD's first emu for the xbox)
Surreal64 (Which blew most of us away and is by far the best N64 emu by Lantus and oDD)

I got rid of the older releases the minute this one came out, and I haven't regretted it yet wink.gif

The first South Park game works pretty well in PJ64-X (some graphics plugin issues that would likely be fixed now) but dosn't load at all in Surreal. Aside from that, havn't run into anything that isn't better in Surreal.

you'll find that some Acclaim roms dont load at all in surreal. I checked an old PJ64 faq and the same problem occurs on the pc version if the audio plugin has "sync audio" flag enabled.

i spoke to Azimer about this last night, because his plugins all sync to audio. He mentioned to me its because of a flaw in Zilmars audio spec. Timing is very important, if you start audio too early or too late some games wont run at all.

he mentioned a solution to me, that we will look into for the next update

I actually suspected that was a common thread at one point (Until finding out several Turoks worked, which threw me), as the Acclaim ECW and WWF games also didn't work.

there might be a workaround for the other non working Acclaim roms

if you open up the Surreal.ini and search for Turok2 i think theres a line that says something like

UseBasicAudio=1 or something to do with basic audio

try adding those to the other acclaim roms (remember to delete the copy of the surreal.ini in your E/tdata path)

not sure if this will work but give it a shot at least

Thanks Lantus! That did the trick for both South Park (U) [!] and ECW Hardcore Revolution (U) [!]. Both work fine now, though with some audio quirkiness (to be expected considering the workaround used). I havn't tried the two WWE games or any other Acclaim games, but I expect it makes quite a few more games playable now. smile.gif

yeah expect quirkyness..theres no sync to audio with the basic plugin at all.

we should have a better solution in the next update.
