Xbox Version: v1.1

Well I did it... I am succesfully playing my NTSC retail copy of Enter the Matrix on my HDD. Here is where it all started: Enter The Matrix Available Now @ Target? I wanted to share my findings here with everyone as I noticed all the Matrix patching threads had been locked up due to all the piracy talk. Here are my results:

Enter the Matrix Retail game specs:
4.76 GB
2,120 files and 34 Folders

My XBOX Specs
I have a v1.1 xbox with an x2l running the Xecuter2 4976.02 BIOS and Evolution X 1.8.3752, all running on a 120gig Maxtor. I also have all IGRs turned off.

Try 1: I used PX HDDLoader v1.1 to do a direct backup from the DVD to my XBOX HD.

It completed the install 100% and did not give me any errors while backing it up. But when I went and tried to load the game through EvoX and through BoxPlorer, I got a "There's a problem with the disc you're using. It may be dirty or damaged."

Try 2: The one that works:

Manually Patching Enter The Matrix

1. I FTP'd into my xbox (using FlashFXP) and dragged the entire "D" directory over to my PC HD and got the specs above for the game.
2. I downloaded these 2 patches from online:
Patch 1: MOD EDIT: URL removed (illegal) - (px-matfix.bat file)
Patch 2: Enter_the_Matrix_FIX_for_the_game_crashing_after_projectx_fix.zip - (default.xbe)
*Credit goes to the authors and whomever trully did post the links first. Link to Locked Thread
Update: Links to Both NTSC and PAL Patches

3. Unzip and UnRar "px-matfix.bat" from Enter_The_Matrix_FULLDVD_REAL_FIX_XBOX-ProjectX.zip
4. Copy "px-matfix.bat" into the main root folder for your enter the matrix backup on your HD (where your default.xbe file resides)
5. Run px-matfix.bat as it is a simple batch file that renames all the "long file names" to shorter names.
6. Unzip the new "default.xbe" from Enter_the_Matrix_FIX_for_the_game_crashing_after_projectx_fix.zip
7. Copy this new "default.xbe" to your root matrix folder and overwrite your original default.xbe file.
8. FTP the entire patched Enter The Matrix folder back to your games folder in your xbox and you should be good to go!
9. If you're encountering a black screen after loading up the game on your XBOX HDD, make sure that you have all IGR's turned off in EvoX.

Hope this helps people in the coming weeks when they start asking about why they cant back up their copies of Enter The Matrix. I have completed the game with Naobi and DID NOT see any problems whatsoever with the video or sound. beerchug.gif

EDIT 1: It looks like the second link is dead now. Maybe it's because it contained an actual default.xbe file... so I guess you're on your own trying to find it. unsure.gif
EDIT 2: Updated the info regarding IGRs and black screen of death! ph34r.gif
EDIT 3: Just wanted to add that I completed the game with Naobi without experiencing any sound or video problems whatsoever.
EDIT 4: To cut down on the # of PMs I'm still getting from people who don't read the entire thread, here is a link to both NTSC and PAL batches courtesy of Atreyu: Links to Both NTSC and PAL Patches

I'd like to hear if other people with the retail version have the same problems with pxHDD v.1.1 though.

Avalaunch actually permits the long file names to be saved intact.

Thus only the media check patch is needed to make your RETAIL copy work.

doesnt avalalunch just stick another layer into the file system. Say a file was too long, it calls it file_bla_bla01.ava for example and then uses a database to reference the nonesence file name to the real longer one?

Therefore long file names copied in avalaunch are still useless because this extra layer is unloaded when it runs the game..

or have i got it slightly wrong?

You can roll your eyes all you want. I have my reciepts here to prove I LEGALLY OWN THIS GAME. If you want more proof, goto Target and have them look up this line item from my reciept.

That is one of the reasons I created this post. I heard the same thing about gig sizes, filenames, etc... But I went through those steps above to see the size of the game on my PC HD, and those were the numbers it gave me.

Size: 4.76 GB (5,117,464,946 bytes)
Size on disk: 4.76 GB (5,121,961,984 bytes)
Contains: 2,120 files, 34 Folders

If anyone has a better tool I can use to show the actual size on the disk, then please point me to the way. I do not have a DVD burner and all my games I PURCHASE go straight to my HDD since it loads a 10x quicker.

Please do not turn this thread into a flame war. I just want to inform the rest of xbox-scene of my findings and hopefully move onto a newer BIOS or version of EvoX to fix this problem as I hate patching games for my HD. I have not had a chance to to use Avalaunch yet as I have not had any time to look for it let alone test it.

Cheers to whomever creates a permanent fix to this game and future games like it in the future... beerchug.gif

The second link to the second patch file (eg. members.veriozon....) doesn't work. Does anyone know where to get the second file? Can you do this with XBCopy, that is copy the game to the HDD and then FTP to your Xbox and add the patch files. Any help would be appreciated

What the hell... ph34r.gif
If the retail is 4.76GB - the size of one DVD-R, what is up with Epsylons supposed DVD source release being 5.3GB blink.gif
A beta.. removed movies... !?

EDIT : Erm.. ok i looked at the Epsylon ISO again and it seems it roughly the size DBZRacer just described. It is 5,120,888,832 so why did Epsylon state that it was 5.3GB.. am i missing something here?
