Well I did it... I am succesfully playing my NTSC retail copy of Enter the Matrix on my HDD. Here is where it all started:
Enter The Matrix Available Now @ Target? I wanted to share my findings here with everyone as I noticed all the Matrix patching threads had been locked up due to all the piracy talk. Here are my results:
Enter the Matrix Retail game specs:4.76 GB
2,120 files and 34 Folders
My XBOX SpecsI have a v1.1 xbox with an x2l running the Xecuter2 4976.02 BIOS and Evolution X 1.8.3752, all running on a 120gig Maxtor. I also have all IGRs turned off.
Try 1: I used PX HDDLoader v1.1 to do a direct backup from the DVD to my XBOX HD. It completed the install 100% and did not give me any errors while backing it up. But when I went and tried to load the game through EvoX and through BoxPlorer, I got a "There's a problem with the disc you're using. It may be dirty or damaged."
Try 2: The one that works:
Manually Patching Enter The Matrix1. I FTP'd into my xbox (using FlashFXP) and dragged the entire "D" directory over to my PC HD and got the specs above for the game.
2. I downloaded these 2 patches from online:
Patch 1:
MOD EDIT: URL removed (illegal) -
(px-matfix.bat file) Patch 2: Enter_the_Matrix_FIX_for_the_game_crashing_after_projectx_fix.zip -
(default.xbe)*Credit goes to the authors and whomever trully did post the links first. Link to Locked ThreadUpdate: Links to Both NTSC and PAL Patches3. Unzip and UnRar "
px-matfix.bat" from Enter_The_Matrix_FULLDVD_REAL_FIX_XBOX-ProjectX.zip
4. Copy "px-matfix.bat" into the main root folder for your enter the matrix backup on your HD (where your default.xbe file resides)
5. Run px-matfix.bat as it is a simple batch file that renames all the "long file names" to shorter names.
6. Unzip the new "
default.xbe" from Enter_the_Matrix_FIX_for_the_game_crashing_after_projectx_fix.zip
7. Copy this new "default.xbe" to your root matrix folder and overwrite your original default.xbe file.
8. FTP the entire patched Enter The Matrix folder back to your games folder in your xbox and you should be good to go!
9. If you're encountering a black screen after loading up the game on your XBOX HDD, make sure that you have all IGR's turned off in EvoX.
Hope this helps people in the coming weeks when they start asking about why they cant back up their copies of Enter The Matrix. I have completed the game with Naobi and
DID NOT see any problems whatsoever with the video or sound.
EDIT 1: It looks like the second link is dead now. Maybe it's because it contained an actual default.xbe file... so I guess you're on your own trying to find it.
EDIT 2: Updated the info regarding IGRs and black screen of death!
EDIT 3: Just wanted to add that I completed the game with Naobi without experiencing any sound or video problems whatsoever.
EDIT 4: To cut down on the # of PMs I'm still getting from people who don't read the entire thread, here is a link to both NTSC and PAL batches courtesy of Atreyu:
