got my hands on the patched default.xbe file everyone is trying to find and just to let you guys know..it works great with no need to apply belokk's method of transferring the x:/art folder over to the f:games/nfl fever 2004 in order to get it to run off the hdd

i think i have found a solution to all your nfl fever 2004 problems. however i do not take credit for patching this default.xbe file i got. you'll have to thank riot for that. this is my explaination on how it was patched. i simply compared the orginal default.xbe file with patched one. using hex workshop v4.00 this is what i discovered the differences were. SAVE A COPY OF YOUR ORIGINAL DEFAULT.XBE BEFORE BEGINNING

first..you must patch the default.xbe file as normal. change the offset string
(everyone should know this by now)

E8 CA FD FF FF 85 C0 7D

to

E8 CA FD FF FF 85 C0 EB

next....go down to offset line 00000348 and look for this string

0300 0000 DE25 9252 and change it to

0200 0000 DE25 9252

next....go to the offset line 0003059c and look for this string

0008 0000 0F94 C0A2 and change it to

0002 0000 0F94 C0A2

now FTP the patched default.xbe file back to your f:/nfl fever 2004 folder. i test patched this using the original default.xbe file and it worked without any problems so far off the HDD. no need to transfer files from x:/art to f:/nfl fever 2004

cheers beerchug.gif

just a note though to you guys backing up the game to a dvd(+1)r. if you want the game to be played off the dvd, you just have to patch the game using the first method. offset 7D to EB. however, if you patch the game using the hdd circumvention as well, the game will not play off the dvd(+-)r. just use dvd2xbox to copy the files to your xbox HDD and the game will play fine from there. i've been getting a lot of pm's about where to get the hacked default.xbe. DO NOT ASK ME where to get the patched default.xbe because I WILL NOT tell you. patching the original default.xbe doesn't take anymore then five minutes to do. any pm's asking where to get the patched default.xbe will be ignored

Well, we should actually credit Riot for this fix. rolleyes.gif Looks like he just compared their default.xbe with the retail copy.

You are correct. I am waiting to see if this is the new norm so I can incoporate it into Craxtion.

I don't understandy why they even bother with these little "security measures". (At least that is how I interpreted all of this).

If it can be broken in a matter of hours, what is the point jester.gif

As I've stated, I have my doubts. I suspect Riot were just putting some spin on it when they called it hard drive protection. I still think it's a bug. Though, can it be considered a bug if it allows the game to be played 100% as it was meant to??? laugh.gif

I certainly hope it is just a bug because if it is not it means that I will actually have to work on Craxtion again. jester.gif meanwhile I should a new version out sometime this weekend or early next week. Just some bug fixes here and there. Shell extentions are coming along nicely. <---giant pain in the ass

as i said from the beginning of my second post

QUOTE

and i did give credit as credit is due as soon as i found out who the patched file orginated from, i just had to do a bit of research. just ask belokk as i had to go into #**** channel to find out.

just know that nobody who had the file even took the initiative to do some detective work to find out what the default.xbe did. i just thought i would share my findings with many of you. so please don't flame me for stealing someone's elses handy work because i am not that shallow and selfish of a person. wink.gif anyways enjoy playing the game
