I noticed that FBAxxx or FBAxxx Pro weren't on that list. FBAxxx Pro is my favorite Arcade emu, although it can't play all of the games that MameOX128 plays. It plays all of the Neo Geo, CPS1 and CPS2 games (CPS = Capcom Play System, I believe), games such as Magician Lord, Street Fighter II, Ghouls & Ghosts, Strider and Darkstalkers. MameOX128 plays a ton more games, but you can only play so many different versions of Majong before it gets played out. Then again, you're not going to be able to play Pac Man, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Rolling Thunder or The Simpsons on either version of FBAxxx.

Personally, I use both MameOX128 and FBAxxx Pro in tandem. Any games that will play on FBAxxx Pro I won't play with MameOX128. Lots of requirements for getting a working romset for FBAxxx Pro though, should you chose to go that route. Expect hours and hours and hours of work using Romcenter, more if you're a Romcenter n00b. Plenty of guides out there on how to use it if you Google it though, so I won't get into that. Don't expect too much help from people here with Romcenter. It's pretty much a self learned skill that everybody needs to master on their own. Only OCD people like me should try to tackle that.

I couldn't tell you how well FBAxxx performs in comparison, as I skipped it and went stright to Pro. If you don't use FBAxxx Pro, I'd probably just go with the newest version of MameOX128 at the usual spot. It plays a lot of the games that FBAxxx Pro plays anyways.

Ditto!

This is the best combo out there. Arcade modern fighting games
I play on FBA-XXX and titles like Shinobi, Toku, Raiden and other
classics I play in Mameox128 Plus.

Recently I did try Mamedox Platinum V2, but it presented a lot
of Vsync problems for me. Games who run smoothly at Mameox128
does not run correctly in PlatinumV2.

To not say that SIMPLE2X was removed from Platinum too...

Cheers,
Cospefogo.

They are indeed on the list as best emulators for Neogeo/CPS1/CPS2 based games.

My choice for CPS/CPS2/NeoGeo is Kawa-X, even tho there are a few Neogeo games it won't run. I've been running for at least 2-3 years now and it's gotten heaps of play from me. Never seen the reason to upgrade. Just works smile.gif

Which version of Mameox128 are you running Cospefogo?, if you don't mind me asking. I'd love to have a version with simple2x filter, didn't know there was one, and it's confusing finding the right version when there are so many about.

Many thanks.

That would be Centipede ofcourse, i'll explain :
Mameox runs about 90% of all MAME roms, as to where the Centipede emulator runs Centipede 100%

and since 100 is better then 90 the Centipede emulator wins!

Thanks!

I've tried it out and I'm a bit disappointed that it doesn't handle simple2x too well on a stock 64mb xbox, I presume this is where a ram upgrade would be handy, or is MAME more CPU intensive?

Thanks again chap.

Kimota,

Yes, with SIMPLE2X modes MameoX does not handle perfectly the screens.
You must keep your magnification/minification filters in LINEAR.
At least the screen gets a bit more sharpen!

Pasting right from my website:

QUOTE

I use on MameoX 128 plus

* Vsync: Enabled
* Framerate trotting: Enabled
* Frameskip mode: Auto
* Aspect ratio: change to ORIGINAL
* Magnification filter: Linear
* Minification filter: Linear
* Scalling filter: None (Or Simple 2X for sharpen graphics)
* Flicker Filter: Zero

MameoX is the most played emulator in my hideout and I never stop to search for different methods to present better “pixelated” screens. Recently I found out something very interesting - the magnification and minification set on linear were annoying me a bit due to the excessive bluriness on the graphics.

I know it corrects the jags and tearing caused by the different screen sizes on all games versus my emulator screen configuration, however I kept wondering why FBA-XXX (who works on pretty same way) is able to present sharpen graphics EVEN IN linear mode? After few tests I discovered that you can try to change the scaling filter in SIMPLE 2X mode instead of NONE to get sharpen graphics. In all games I tested so far it works very well, with exception for Shinobi, who presents small weird graphic corruption in some specific parts of the levels.

CPU intensive. A RAM upgrade would offer little (if any) help for the speed.

Really? so there's not a great deal of benefit to be had in MAME with a 128mb xbox. That surprises me somewhat, as I thought that was one of the main reasons for having the upgrade in the first place!

I'm guessing it was made redundant since XPort implemented VMM?

Thanks for the replies, and cospefogo thanks for them settings, I can just about live with linear hardware filtering so long as the flicker/soft filter is set to zero. Still it's a shame when you compare it to the other emu's on the Xbox.

Thanks

Seriously, I love FBAx and all it's subsequent incarnations, rumble support, move lists and cheats from inside the games, a stunning selection of some of the best fighters and shooters ever, I absofuckinglutely love it.

It would offer minor help for games that use VM a LOT, but would do nothing for general emulation speed. It would also allow you to play Street Fighter. If the games you are testing are small, chances are they are not even using virtual memory and thus a RAM upgrade would make no difference (since there is already enough free RAM to load the whole game into memory). The filter itself is taxing on top of the general MAME speed. I have found that I can't maintain 60 FPS with any game unless it's early 80's (like pacman) if I have a filter turned on. But then again, I didn't do too much testing.
