Ok, ALL I NEED TO DO IS LOCK MY HDD!

I am doing this via PC, I have xboxhdm v1.9 on a cd (linux.iso) and i did all i wanted and restored hard drive! YAY!

Now, I unlocked the drive via eeprom.bin program user and it worked, now it is unlocked right now. I am trying to lock it up again, so i go to

boot 3
lockhd -a

Now, it scans the entire cd for eeprom.bin, it finds it, then reads it, then it says:

Primary Drive FROZEN! Cannot lock a frozen drive. Try disabling 'auto detect' on the BIOS.

Now, i have done everything to keep my drive from freezing to lock it...

~Regular booting
~removed IDE cable until after booting BIOS then reconnecting
~messed with DELL BIOS a lot

Please help as this is the only way to save my xbox.

ONCE AGAIN:

I just need to lock my HDD on my PC, i havemy eeprom.bin, hddinfo, all that stuff backed up and sent to my email...and on a couple cds around my house.

what does this have to do with:

Xbox Backup Forum - DVD/CD Burning / ISO extraction & creation / Hard Drive Backups

Hard drive backups are GAMES you are trying to run from HDD.

Thanks for the answer chorizo1!

This does relate to the forum title. Hard Drive Backup is in the title... I restored my hard drive via a backup, now having trouble locking it, seems perfectly fine for this forum since hard drive backups lead to more memory which means installing a bigger HDD, which means unlocking / locking HDs.

Chorizo is right, this is in the wrong forum.

However, make sure when you are plugging the IDE cable in after boot that the drive is set to primary master (via jumper), as cable select won't work after the system has booted.

Could you explain that a bit better?

So, I boot PC with power cable in, but not the IDE cable, but I get bios error then when trying to lock the hd after reconnecting the IDE cable after BIOS not found, it too cant find the hd pn the PRIMARY drive.

Or atleast tell me what looks different and what is a jumper cable, and a cable mode?

This will help alot if i get an answer

I had your problem on my first attempt.

My solution was:

1. Instead of unplugging the IDE cable which is more dangerous, I unplugged the molex power connector.

2. With the PC off, power up the PC.

3. Just before or just after your BIOS sequence (i.e. before the CD/DVD is used as the boot device) plug in the molex power cable. This allows to hard drive to spin up without the BIOS detecting it which casue it to be frozen in linux.

4. Once linux boots up type 'lockhd -a'.

All went fine for me.

Also I don't remeber if jumper selection was an issue but if so just look on your hard drive to verify either jumper confirguration (i.e cable select, or master).

I had this problem once. It turned out the computer I was using was too old and the bios would not recognize a large hard drive. So I tried it on a newer computer no problem.

If those answers don't work, try setting your primary master to none in the computer BIOS. That's what I have to do.

If all else fails, try option 6 then 7 on the menu. This creates a bootable floppy with locking and unlocking tools. I never try to lock with the CD, always with the boot disk. It may be extra steps, but that is what works for me and I am happy with it.

Boot the floppy and type atapwd to check the status of the hd.

Escape to exit.

Type lockhd and it will come up 1-4. From atapwd you should see which number you hd is, usually 1. Press 1 and it will read the eeprom information that was written to the floppy from your CD.

Type atapwd again to check the status of the drive. There should be two ++ in the rihgt hand box. This indicates the drive is locked.
