smartxxv3 on v1.6box; manufactured on 2004-09-09, hence last 5 digets of serial: 43705

Wire rebuild of LPC, no apparent dry joints, two previous installs on this version plus 4 on v1.0 to V1.4, all went well. Am reasonable at soldering.

Put power lead into socket according to manufacture,s manual (socket on upper left edge, closest to IDE socket on mobo.

Firstly chip would not light up or pull down do (L frame), got M$ dash first then error message no. 07

I then pulled the box appart and Earthed L frame direct, once again no activity from chip and xbox kept rebooting.

swapped another chip and dvd power leads to power the chip, still the same result.

disconnected the L frame from earth and Xbox dash rebooted followed by error 07.

RAM is Samsung --no sign of Hynex RAM as have seen where V1.6B has issues with Smartxx o/s if not the latest. Both chips were bought only three months ago, so O/S should be up to date.

Both smartxx chips are just dead, will not pull DO to earth and no LEDs light up.

Am at a loss as what to do as all the soldering looks good and there is no fragging until error 07 comes up

The diagram I followed to rebuild the LPC consisted of only four wires for signals lado,lad1,lad2 and lad3, there was no 5v power line to pin9.

The power to pin9 was removed in V1.6, is this correct?

I used a Xenium on the last v1.6 and it required 3.3vof power to be put back on pin9 from pin15.

As smartx has a 5v power plug-in from the dvd lead, I presumed that it got its power only from this lead. I was concerned that I might damage the smartx if I also put 5v on pin9 on the pin header as it was not mentioned in the diagram supplied.

Do I need to take 5v from the point near R7R8 or from the leg of the trasistor regulator U6A1 to make the chip come alive or will this damage the smartxx chip??

Smartxx fired up when 5v was fed to pin9 on pin header from point near R7R8.

Smartxx needs two 5v inputs, one from DVD drive harness as well as one from pin9 on pin header;

Problem solved, so I thank those and who took the time to puzzle over the problem and take the liberty close down this thread.
