Hi All
I have a ( or had one should I say) Xbox with a Liteon DG16 drive and a CK3 connectivity kit. I had flahsed the drive successfully iwth 1.5 using Iprep and Serial cable, ( my WinXp does not recognise the SATA drives) some time ago . I have the all the key id for the drive.
Today I tried to flash with 1.51. I had the connectivity kit hooked up as before. Blue Cable to drive, serial to PC and molex to CK3, Probe was attahced. I swithed pc on and the then switched CK3 on but smoke started to come out of Liteon. Feeling optimistic I tried again but CK3 LED was red.
Question 1 is Can I replace drive with any brand of drive and flash with the liteon Key and 1.51. IF so recommendation on which drive, IF it has to be a Liteon where can I get one from .
Question 2- What do you think happned. I am almost certain all the power cables were in the right way. ( after all it is pretty difficult not to since they have guides)
Thanks for your help.
Lou

Spewing! not good at all.

1. You can replace it with any drive. Liteon is the best followed by benq, imo i wouldnt use a sammy or hitachi. Check ebay or any "mod/service" store in your area, they might sell you a spare dvd drive. Just spoof away in jf.

2. If your sure the power cable was around the right way im not sure what happened blink.gif

1- Yes the sight of smoke and the smell of burning plastic does not bode well. smile.gif Have ordered a replacement drive,
2- I am pretty sure, after all it has guides, so it is pretty difficult to put them in the wrong way. My main concern now is frying the new drive. I assume since the LED on CK3 is still working then unlikely that is the cause. but had a thought, I have some old generic SATA drives lying around. Can I test the CK3 on them and see if they show up under dosflash?
Thanks
Lou

You would be quite surprised how many people have put the drive cable in the wrong way round, it sounds like it is a hard thing to do but it doesn't need much pressure. This is why team Xecuter changed the design so this wouldn;t happen in future.

What happens when you put it in wrong way round is basically what you describe by the burning smell and then the smoke.

your CK3 will no doubt be unaffected just situate you ck3 kit so the back end of the drive is showing so you know exactly which way the cab le is going in, and i guarantee you will not make the same mistake twice either.
