Ok, so I was planning on buying a broken console on e-bay and fixing it myself ,but I came across a guy selling a broken console that still had the warranty so I figured I would just send it to Microsoft myself. The console came today and with it came the "original" receipt. The date on the receipt is 1/23/07 but the date on the console is 12/4/05. With a over a year in difference, I doubt the authenticity of the receipt. This brings me to my question. Should I bother trying to send the console to Microsoft or are they just going to send it back. It is working fine right now but that was probably just because the heat from the UPS truck was like the towel trick. Also, I am not so sure about the seal being intact because on my console it is to the right of the on button but on this console, it is to the left of the on button (green lights). So should I just do an X-clamp and some thermal mods or will Microsoft fix it???

You should do what you originally planned to do, fix it. Have it to play with, like modding. That's just my thought on it....

If you want an easy way out you could ring Microsoft, they will ask you the serial number and they'll be able to tell you whether your under warranty.

ok, thanks. I have never dealt with Microsoft support so I wasn't sure how they determined eligibility... I guess if they don't take it, I can do some cool case mods and stuff anyways...

So yea, I talked to them today and registered the console. They are sending me the pre-payed box and are going to fix it pending my receipt verification.

for awhile MS was putting out systems made like around release time in the spring and summer last year. I dunno why. These had manufacture dates of launch team and about 8 months later you see it new in box. Maybe they were putting refurbs. I had gotten one of these boxes and when i looked inside the heatsink clamp was labeled december 2005 and the manufacture date was like 10-2005
