I am about to set my basement up with a new projector and I'm trying to decide which will be the best:

I am looking at the Mitsubishi HD1000U for 999 from dell (on credit). This is a native 720p. My other option is the Optima DV-10. This 420p projector will cost only 499 after a 100 dollar rebate from circuit city. Will i truly see the difference and be blown away by 720p? Is it worth an extra 500 bucks?

My basement is about 15x15 foot with an 8.5 foot ceiling. There is almost zero ambient light as there aren’t any windows.

You will definitely notice the difference.. 720p is high definition. 480p is not. Totally worth it. In your basement with no light will look fantastic in 720p. I've seen hd projectors for a lot less than 1k by the way.. Check pricegrabber.

i can tell you that on a 27 inch tv the difference is dramtic between 720p and 480p. with a bigger display it sould be even more apparent but then again ive never used a projector for gaming. my tv does 1080i but i dont use it. it looks like 720p just a bit blurryer on my set

get the Mitsu HD1000U

even at it's current MSRP it's a bargain.

easily one of the best 720p projectors on the market today. For the Sub $1000 market it's hands down the best projector you can buy PERIOD.

Even at $500 I wouldn't buy the DV-10... there are much better 480p projectors for the same price (like the Infocus X2 or 4805)

Also THDVL and sicx13 are right... on a projector HD makes an astronomical difference.
