Hi,

I softmoded my Xbox following Textbook's tutorial shortly after it was published on this board, and I've been SOOO happy with it. I changed default dash to Avalaunch, but other than that, no changes have been made

I have two problems though, that is becoming somewhat annoying, and I hope you can help me out:

1.) I just bought a cable with optical out, and hooked up the Xbox to my surround system. I have enabled DTS/AC3 (will get back to this part) and everything works great, but EVERY time the Xbox is booted, it forgets all settings, and I have to enable the digital audio out again...?

How do I make the Xbox remember these settings?

Enabling DTS/AC3 is a pain:
I got EEPROM writeback errors when trying to do this, so I found out, that the only way I could enable digital audio was by using ConfigMagic to Unlock HDD and then enable EEPROM writeback in the Avalaunch dash, and then via Avalaunch AV settings enable DTS and AC3. Then I have to start ConfigMagic again, and Re-Lock the Harddisk. This way I will have digital audio...until the Xbox is booted that is...!

Please help me make my Xbox remember this setting sad.gif

2.) When I play my backup games from HDD, all cutscenes fail to synchronize video with audio? -Audio is always ahead of the video (anywhere from 2-10 seconds). This doesn't happen when playing the game from the DVD...can anyone help me fix this?

I'm looking forward to getting some help from some of you tech experts in here biggrin.gif

Vasago

I've done searches before, but limited them to loosing audio settings, and haven't had any luck, but just now I saw a similar problem others had experienced with video settings, and found a tip from Jonels: "Put a copy of your eeprom.bin file in e:\shadowc\eeprom.bin". I haven't tried this yet, but hope it applies to the softmod I have done...?

Still haven't found any suggestions to fix my sync audio/video problem in cutscenes! I can add, that I play .avi movies from the Xbox with no trouble at all...it's perfectly in sync...I ONLY have the problem with cutscenes in games blink.gif

Still hoping for some input here biggrin.gif

Vasago

Hi Krayzie,

Thank you for your reply. I have tried the eeprom "fix", but my Xbox still resets on every boot? sad.gif

I made a backup of EEPROM.bin via ConfigMagic, and then moved it to my e:\shadowc\ folder so that it holds a shadowc.img file and a EEPROM.bin file (low-/upcase written as my files are on the HDD in case that makes a difference).

Have I misunderstood something, or what am I doing wrong here?

I really hope you can help me out. Just this evening the dash froze when changing settings with HDD unlocked, which means Xbox boots to error 05, and I have to take a part the Xbox and plug the HDD into my computer and re-lock it via my Xboxhdm CD with Eeprom backup on.... sad.gif

Thanks in advance,
Vasago

the virtual eeprom is a nkpatcher setting. I don't know what you used and in what location it should be. You could compile a new nkpatcher with a specified path or disabled virtual eeprom. check pinned topics

Thanks again,

One (hopefully) last question. I have looked for the nkpatcher I used back then, but seems I haven't kept it sad.gif I do however know, that I did not change the default settings, so I'm guessing it's just standard.

Looking at the standard config.inc file (just downloaded it again), I see that the virtual_eeprom_path is '\Device\Harddisk0\Partition8\eeprom.bin'. Where is that in terms of drive letter? (e:\ or...?)

Hmmm...Ok, I can't write to the actual C: drive!

I've build a new default.xbe using the NKPatcher 10, with settings to fit my setup, and with a virtual eeprom on the e:\ drive, where I can actually create it.

Is it correct, that I can just replace the default.xbe in my e:\bios folder with the one I just created, or what would be the correct approach?

Ok, build a new defaul.xbe with specified virtual_eeprom path using NKPatcher 10, and put it in my e:\bios folder. Works like a charm with regards to saving my audio setup...thanks a bunch Krayzie biggrin.gif

I can't start my MS Dashboard anymore though, so I'm guessing I did something wrong in the config.inc file when building the virtual bios? -any suggestions...

I enabled auto region, and expected that to fix my audio/video synchronization problem, but it didn't? -how would I go about fixing this? My box is PAL and I have both PAL games, and NTSC games brought home from the US by my sister uhh.gif

Vasago

1) Sounds like your shadowc setup has gone wrong, check your config.inc matches your setup. Your M$ setup is probably on it.

2) I don't know about avalaunch, but in unleashx I have never been able to get the auto or region settings to do anything. With Evox setting game region to 'auto' and TSR to'normal' works and in XBMC the auto setting also works. Otherwise putting 'Enigma' video mode switcher as an app works, and remember now you have your virtual eeprom setup there is no chance of corrupting your real eeprom with it, I use it all the time as not all games respond to auto changing anyway as they are set to use the eeprom default.

Note to use enigma.. run it and press either 'A' for PAL or 'B' for NTSC, then "In Game Reset" .. your xbox will be in the new mode.

edit.. Nkpatcher is supposed to auto change region aswell but I have never seen it work, I tried on a 1.6 and 1.0 box. I tried various settings in the confic inc and nothing made it work, I also used pre compiled Nkpatchers from different installers (Krayzies/Kinroaches ect) and they wouldn't work for either. I have never understood why it doesn't work and even posted about it, but the majority said it worked fine for them so I must have been doing something wrong there.
