I have had trouble finding the answer to this, as websites and what people are saying seem to be full of conflict. So here it is, please don't be mad if I have made a faux pas (i am, after all a noob)
I want to mod my xbox so that i can use EvoX, Media Player. I want to be able to make backups of my games, and i want to be able to keep and view mpg videos and mp3 music on my hd (i am planning on putting a 100 to 120 GB drive in. reccomendations on a cheap drive that works well, i don't care about the xbox live compatality). Now the question is this, I am planning on getting an X2lite chip and the pogo pin adaptor thingy so i don't have to solder, as i got shakey hands from years of ritilan I am relatively good with computers (I have a weird basic computer minor, simple networking and repair stuff, not too rigorous), but I admit that I am completely new to the world of modding in general, much less Xbox modding. Thanks in advance to those that help, I look forward to learning more. |

Your ready to rock, dont worry about changing your bios or anything as you dont really need to unless you like messing around with stuff like that, theres a list on xbox-scene that shows all the bios features and as long as you can swap hd your ok.
Get yourself the biggest cheapest hd you can find, whack evox dash on it, or any other one and your all set, check out the tutorials on xbox-scene rather than trying here as its a bit messy. |

WHAT? You can't run EVOX or XBMP on the Cromwell BIOS. Hell, you can't run any XBOX developed application on that BIOS. The only reason the chips are even shipped with that BIOS is for legal purposes. dmg: Why bother answering someones question when you don't even know what your talking about? Statik001: Check out the X2 BIOS. Don't ask where to get it here, but this is the BIOS you want to go with. And yes, the X2 BIOS will allow you to do most everything you want to do. And remember, read, read, and read some more. Everything you want to know about XBOX mod'ing is available online. This post has been edited by ajb: Apr 22 2003, 11:13 AM |

That all depends. Yes, you could spend some money and get a programmer, or you could use a program called OZX Flash (load the program and the BIOS on a CDRW) and flash your BIOS that way. http://www.extreme-mods.com/files/ozxflash1-2.zip You really need to read/search the fourms. You'll find a TON on information on this subject. |

get a matrix then, it comes with programmer and chip. If you have a bios let say then why not. Easy install as well and all the features.

If you take the extra time to look, you can still find x2 lite chips that have the x2 bios preflashed...

yeah, i plan to just use xecuter2lite and ozxflash. now, with that other bios, i am going to want to put that on a CD using xISO or just plain? I am guessing that i will still have to use xISO, but the instructions that come with ozxflash were ambiguous.
so i guess i would like to know if the plan of action i am outlining below is going to be good: 1.) Get Xecuter 2lite (and the pogo thingy so i don't have to solder it). 2.) install xecuter 2 lite onto mobo 3.) burn CDRW with ozxflash and a CDRW containing the BIOS (using xISO). run the ozxflash cd and flah the bios 4.) install EvoX from disc i already made 5.) Backup HD onto my PC 6.) put in new cheap 120GB HD 7.) use the special "HD Install INI" EvoX disc to format/partition 8.) copy the backed up HD from PC onto brand spankin new HS 9.) ENJOY my newfound funtionalities! Did I miss anything? Is there any glaring mistakes or unessisary steps? oh yeah, with the bios flashing, you have to do it 4 times right, to fill the full 1Mbyte space? how do you do that? or does ozxflash do that automatically? Please... READ the FAQ's and the TUTORIALS. Then SERACH the forum. As I've said, your asking basic questions that have all been answered. Don't take the lazy approach to this... READ and LEARN... Then try it, and if you have a specific problem then ask questions.

i HAVE gone thru a bunch of tutorials. basically, at this point, what i really want more than anything else is for an acctual human being, not a txt file, to confirm that i got my plan right.
and still, any info on the whole burning the bios 4 times thing would be nice, because i am not absolutely clear on that one. |

No info on the BIOS... I found it really easy with a quick search. And it's on the page 1 of the newbie fourm right now too... topic: X2 Lite Flasing
"You need a 1024k bios.bin file" Now... I understand you want a human being to hold your hand... but do some research on your own first. |
