okay,

i used slayers installer to get evox and so on. well now i have the urge to improve my xbmc. as we all know slayers is build 1.0. i have the 5/30/05 build of xbmc on my puter waiting to go. here is where i need some guidence.

should i edit my xtml? i know this can be done just not sure if it is the best option in my situation. since i'm updating from 1.0???

or.....

can i just make a backup of my current xbmc, then replace/overwrite all the files with the new build???? if this is the way i do it i would go to f\apps\xbmc correct???

i have researched this just not sure what would be the easiest

It all depends on what you want to do with xbmc. If all you are going to do is copy media over to your xbox then you dont really need to do anything. But if you want it to connect up to you pc for you mps and videos, then you will need to modify the xml file. Its nothing too complicated. They put comments in there to show you how to script it and everything. I was new to xml files not too long ago and wasnt hard to learn. if you know how to do basic html then you should be fine. tongue.gif

YEA,

i have been looking at it....the one thing i guess i'm worried about is royally screwing up. i will make up a backup on my pc just in case....really i just want an updated version to fix some minor things and so i can use new skins.....i don't know if i'll get to into streaming from my pc....the build that comes with slayers is so outdated i can't even use the orbs skin

Yeah do that... take a backup then copy all the new files over the top of the old ones.

Except for XboxMediaCenter.xml which you should understand and merge into the new one.

What i do is use windiff.exe to compare ALL the xml files and either merge in differences, or just use the new one. It takes a little time but not much and is really worth it when the new XBMC boots up! BEEEYOUTIFUL

Ooh and don't forget to delete the XBMC save... delete E:\TDATA\0face008

when you say use the new one i could just make the backup, then transfer the xbmc folder i downloaded over to the F-apps-xbmc (where the current one is) and then click over write??? also would i need to rename any files for anything??

i used slayers for my install. what i have done now is leave the xbmc that came with slayers, and installed at the same level newer versions of xbmc, then just edit the xml. but i always leave that 'default' xbmc in /apps/ just in case, unmodded.

Yep, just backup the old xmbc onto your pc. Whenever you do anything to your xbox. always back what you are going to change. I made the mistake of not backing up my c drive one time when I started to play with the exploit and ended up killing my xbox. Had to spend 70 bucks to get to back up and running tongue.gif

I dont think you need to do anything with Tdata. Yeah you can overwrite the files. Just back them up to your pc first.
