Microsoft PR: Firmly Behind HD DVD Format - No Blu-ray Addon for 360
Posted by XanTium | May 16 23:21 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From Microsoft's Games Global Marketing team blog (FYI: MS owned blog):
[QUOTE]
'Just want to clear up a few things surrounding several erroneous stories regarding alleged comments from Peter Moore about Xbox 360 supporting Blu-ray. Simply put...These reports are completely incorrect.

Some online media outlets have picked up this story and are citing Internet speculation of an alleged Associated Press story that does not exist, along with comments taken out of context from a story in ITmedia that appeared back in January. This information is being reported as news and as a result of a recent interview, neither of which are true.

In an interview with ITmedia back at CES in January of this year, Peter said Xbox 360 has the flexibility to adapt to consumers' needs, allowing Microsoft to add features as consumers demand them - as evidenced by the offering of the HD DVD Player as an accessory.

It is important to understand the context in which that statement was made. We firmly stand behind the HD DVD format as the best choice for consumers. Current reports indicating that Microsoft has a back-up plan, which includes Blu-ray support are incorrect. We're fully committed to HD DVD and have absolutely no plans to support other optical formats.

A.K.A. "Microsoft has invested significantly in the HD-DVD format and for the format to fail would result in a huge loss in capital and revenue for Microsoft; as a result our PR department will begin the process of pushing the format heavily. If the market value for HD-DVD becomes null at a future date Microsft will invest in said alternative format. Nothing to see here, carry on."

If HD-DVD fails it's all down to MS not promoting it.

They should be doing packs with it included elite comes to mind that should of had the hd dvd bundled with it.

they force a BD drive on you with a ps3

they changed to dvd
they changed to vhs
they changed to cd

this is what we call business.

Betamax was technically superior though. I had one and the picture and sound were much better than VHS. Cost an arm and a leg though. sad.gif

Of course they're going to say there will be no Blu-Ray Addon while the format war is going on.

Now, IF Blu-Ray wins the war (god forbid), then I guarantee MS will make one. They would be dumb not to.

At the end of the day if/when a clear winner emerges then Sony or MS will turn that way, no matter what they claim now.
