So i have a xenon motherboard that had the 12v fan mod.It was wired through the dvd drive. and one day i decided to flash the latest firmware to my dvd drive when i unplugged the drive and plugged it back in the to cycle the drive it sparked right when i attempted to plug it back into the drive. then the whole xbox just shutoff about 3secs later. ever since it sparked the xbox won't turn on. and i know the power brick works because i have a broken xenon motherboard that powers up with it. Im wondering if anybody can tell me what part/piece might be broken so i can replace it because i have a spare motherboard i can use for parts.

Is there any noticeable damage to the board anywhere? Better bust out the multimeter and check the standby voltages. I was thinking you probably plugged the cable into the drive in upside down but I don't remember that killing systems.

You shouldn't have used the DVD for 12v for the fan. You may have killed the southbridge, or possibly just a few caps, but usually you would still get power with error 0021 if that were the case.

Is there a way to tell if the caps are killed

You can usually tell just by looking at them. They'll bulge at the top or something will have leaked out of them.

its not that then because they look normal. it has to be the southbridge.
