I have an XBOX 360 that, when plugged into the PSU, the LED goes RED.

The PSU works fine on other 360s, so that tells me there is a problem with this specific 360.

Using a continuity tester, it appears I have a direct short between the + and - ...

Visually inspecting the MB doesn't show any obvious trace issues or burned components...

Any other ideas on what would cause this??

Thanx

B

the x360 that was send to you with that problem where they all opened before ?
Maybe some electronic components where fried by a static charge.
But I have no idea where to look, all I know that its between the 12V and ground tongue.gif
It can be just a transistor that is burned or it can be something more complex like the southbridge.
Can you measure how much ohm there is between the ground and 12 V ?
mine is around 50 ohm.

OK, this is weird..

I went back to it..

NOW what happens is, I get a momentary flash of RED on the Power Supply, then it goes YELLOW and I get a 3RROD on the 360 with a sec code of 0001...

Let me check the ohmage and I'll get back to you.

You should try to replace the mosfets around the cpu.
Did you leave your xbox connected all the time ?
And when this happend you didn't touch anything or pushed anything ?
this could give me a place to look for shorts.

OK, I just put the ohm meter on the MB..

I get a .3 ohm reading between the - and the + on the power connector.

Now, it's been a while since my high school electronics, but I think that this is a direct short, no??

yeah, Mosfets are sorta like transistors that cut down the power to a voltage that is easier to work with.
And it can handle large amps.

the black things circled in blue are the mosfets, and when blow they will give you a 0001 tongue.gif or a 0002 don't really remember

considering FET is field effect transistor, I would say its more then just 'like' a transistor

there are many things i would do before just replacing them.

I know it isn't exactlye like a transistor, and yeah you should measure them out before replacing them.
Do you have a better idea on fixing our problem ?
