So right I went to go rent a game at blockbuster cause I did'nt want to wait for gamefly to come. I brought the game to the counter and they asked me for my CC even though I had cash. I was like what for? They said they are Pre-Authorizing my CC to see if I have enough money to cover the full game price if its lost/stolen/broken. So I don't have enough on my CC to cover the full game and they won't let me rent the game. They said that this policy is only for 360 games. I'm pissed at this point and I said to my self "well they just lost a long time cutomer."

this isn't new, i've been giving them my credit card for authorization since my local blockbuster has had the games (which was either late december or early january). while it may be a bit inconvenient, its not really that big a deal.

Mabey I shoudl have added the fact that they never told me that they did that. Or even asked for my CC when renting 360 games. Another reason I am kind of angry is that fact that i've been waiting to rent a game since it was released calling every day or every other day till it got in and when they finally got it in I was told they had to pre-auth my CC in order to rent the game. I knew I did'nt have the money in there so I was pissed I could'tn get the game. I feel that it was poor customer service that they never told me that when renting any 360 games. I knew I had to have a CC for an account but I did'nt know about the pre-auth.

they don't verify the cost of the whole game, they verify that its a valid card. if you look at the slip you sign when you give them the credit card, it says 1 dollar right on it. it charges a dollar, and cancels the charge. it depends on the person who rings it up too, they have had that policy since they started renting out 360 games at my local blockbuster (and they do have a sign on the counter when you walk in, but only 1 and its easy to miss) but sometimes they don't bother checking it.

they dont tell every person thats calls about a game they they need to have their credit card authorized dont blame it on them, blame it on the 5% of the population that forces them to do that. they are just covering their ass any loaning place would.

This has been the same policy for anywhere for 20+ years. Nobody rents anything without a deposit. Hit Avis and try to get a car for $100 cash.

I don't know what the hell your talking about taking a deposite for renting games. I've never had to do that when I went to go rent a game. But, yea as for pre-auth I should blame those 5% of the population that forces them to do that. But, they never ask me for the CC before today and i've been renting from them for 2 years.

Of course I did'nt know thats how rental places thought about 360 ether. I just considered them just like original xbox games, well... cause they are DL just like original xbox games(Well some of them.). Also now we know how Blue-ray and HD-DVD's are going to be treated when they coem to rental places.

Are you saying that you can rent from any major store xbox1 games without an account with a credit card involved?

Or are you saying I could drive through your town and rent 10 games paying $30 and never return them?

I think you missed what I am talking about. I am not talking about have a CC with a blockbuster account. I am aware of that. What I was not aware of is that they are going to pre-charge your CC the amout of the games worth. Also you have to have the CC present when they do so.

like i said, its not a precharge, its a test to make sure that the card is still valid. the charge 1 dollar (as you can see on the reciept you sign) then cancel the charge. i've checked my credit card statements and the 1 dollar charge doesn't even show up on there. you just need to have a valid, not 100% maxed out card.

Hey if they are doing this they must have a reason. No blockbuster that I've ever seen does this with any rental. Maybe you are very young and they have some sort of rule that they have to do this.

I repeat there is no place that has ever done this, Ive had plenty of blockbuster accounts and about 10 years ago they said I never returned shindlers list and they charged me $100. I said I did, they couldn't prove I didn't I the charge came back (yes I did return it).

If you don't like the rental rules they give don't rent from them. It's not rocket science. Find some other place to rent from.

Well, then again it falls on the staff of the store. Cause acording to them, they charge the amount of the game and I specificly asked that. Cause if it was just a $1 I would have easly done that and this thread would not exsist. But anyways i'll just be using gamefly for game rentals from now on.
