Is this media or the burner?

Im using Ritek (Memorex) @ 4x.

Every burn up to this on has worked. It is the same batch of discs.

My last batch were MKM, i believe. At least they started with M. They were memorex also and worked flawless.

Now I had originally thought it was a windows update issue... because everytime I System restored they would burn without ANY problem. WEIRD.

Now that I couldnt restore to the point I decided to just comepletely restart my system.

Now basically its back to the first time I started it but Ive kept the updates off, installed Imgburn, abgx, an XBC.

Still giving me disc that I have to eject 2-3 times before the xbox reads them.

Tried updating since that wasnt the issue. Same problem.

What could have changed after a system restore that wouldnt have from a complete restart?

Ive been burning memorex for about a year now an never had problems until recently.

All my other games burnt before this load 1st try in the xbox.

I since then thought it may be imgburn since that was the only thing I updated.

When back an burn one on 2.5.4, 2.5.1 and 2.5.0, all with failed results (same results thought). Xbox picks them up but only after 3-4 ejects.

Now Im wondering the only two thing left that I cant check.

The cheapest being try verbatim DVD+R DL's and try again.

The next being buy another burner. Which may in the long run, if it likes memorex, may be cheaper.

What is the problem if it BURNS them but takes the xbox a few try to read it?

BTW this is a new PC with the drive

ATAPI DVDA DH-16AAS
(model on the drive says DH-16AAS13B)
the system is decent with 3.0 Duel core 4gb mem and Windows 7 x64.

Are you saying that there are certain backups that your 350 will read EVERY time on the first try? Because to me is sounds like your laser is going bye bye. Or if you are getting "open tray" errors it may just need a new rubber band.

I'd say there's a strong chance the laser is going on your xbox drive.

I had the exact same issue. I swapped out my BenQ drive (with a LG, but hey, I don't go online...) and yep, all my backups which would be temperamental suddenly worked first time very time.

Could be wrong of course, but that's what happened with me.

Its funny you said rubber band... Were you refering to the "rubber band trick" ?

I never new about this until I was googling Open tray errors and came across a video where someone was using a rubberband on the drive rail to keep the laser from going to far on the inside of the disc.

I thought it couldnt hurt to give it a try an WHAT TO YOU KNOW... Its fixxing all the discs that acted up!

As far as swiching to a benQ, I bet you had a 7xxxx liteon. Or liteon period. And the benq's arnt having a problem going to far inside. Thats why it fixed you problem.

Maybe not but its worth a try as its SIMPLE an SUPER CHEAP to fix.

The YourTube Video that I watched.

I watched my drive do the same thing his did... (SRY FOR HIS MUSIC)

The open tray "failure rate" was 6 out of 10.. Now its 1 out of 10.

THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO REPLIED!! wub.gif

I don't have much experience in this, ut as far as I know, burning the games at 6.0 x speed on my first batch of discs, I forgot what brand, some junkie one I picked up a year ago for the hell of a price, well those ones burned fine, played then kinda did the same thing you're talkin about but more along the lines of freezing and game crashing, now I use the 2.4x Verbatims and I get exceptional results. Same thing goes for music CD's. For many years I burned countless CD's at the MAX speed, but well they all started failing after awhile, so I switched to 1x speed ( yes it takes alot longer) but no problems since then, I have no idea why, I think people say that the laser has more time to cut through the layers and burn the data, like it is supposed to.

My burner went out after 2 days of usage, and wellI'm getting a replacement, the Ihas 424 Liteon drive, yes cheap but effective. Anyways ya hope that solves your problem and if nothing else, grab a drive spoof it, take ur key put it on ur new drive and be done with it, and if you don;t like firmware hacking take out the logic board and put it in the new one.

Im still gonna say its Benq drives, i just ordered a new benq off ebay and same thing, Barely reads disks. So this is 4 benq drives. Again all Liteons and Hitachi boot fine. Media i use is both Verbatim and memorex Mainly verbatim. Ever since LT+plus came out it killed all my Benqs
