Ok. you can now play mkv's on the 360.

Using windows7, so no need for any codec packs now.

1) Installed the Divx 7 R3 preview from the divx site (in the labs section, requires login)
2) just install Haali Media Splitter (i got mine from klite)
3) just install AC3Filter (to allow DTS tracks to play)

Now using Media Center they all play with no transcoding etc.

The only problem i have is BDRIPS with DTS, and the screen jumps a bit every few seconds.

enjoy

Just to clarify...still can't throw an mkv on a jump drive and play it that way...correct?

While this seems to work for me, the quality of the video is crap. Do I have a setting wrong somewhere?

I'm also experiencing poor video quality.. and even lag on some "demanding" scenes.

Running Win 7 x64
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450
4GB PC8500 DDR2 RAM
Geforce FX 9600GT

Tried installing divx 7 + haali but could not play my mkv:s

Now running Shark007 win 7 codecs and x64 addon. Working great with DXVA on the PC but poor video output on xbox

I hope this can be fixed soon, seems that the video support is heading in the right direction, so that's positive.. .hey! We can ALMOST play mkv:s wink.gif

I tried again today and uninstalled shark007s codecs..

realized that I previously installed divx7... Not the tech preview and thats why it didn't work.

So now I installed the tech preview and ha some issues with some files.. installed Haali and AC3Filter and now everything plays just fine..

Video quality is ALOT better than before.. it's still kinda bad in the beginning of the video, but I'm guessing thats for enabling faster start of the videos since the quality improves drastically after just half a minute or so.

I still think the quality should be even better...but hey.. it's still beta, hope they'll introduce a settings app where you can choose quality...

Great work you peeps at DivX!

This is amazing. Thanks so much for finding this. I installed it and I am getting perfect playback, absolutely no issues whatsoever. This is the greatest thing since sliced bread.

I'm only getting stereo, not 5.1 audio when playing an mkv movie with DTS track. I'm using divx tech preview, windows 7, ac3filter, and haali.

Is there anyway to stream DTS or on-the-fly transcode DTS to AC3?

The only solution I found is to transcode an mkv's audio to AC3 using popcorn audio converter before playing the file.

I'm also searching for a solution to this problem, currently I haven't found a convenient way to play DTS on the 360.

But isn't it weird that it doesn't work? I mean my receiver can play DTS and if I select DTS passthrough in AC3Filter should the audio just be sent as is to the receiver?

I hadn't noticed this but I hadnt really paid attention the number of channels it was using. It should be very easy to re-encode the audio to AC3 if necessary though.

Anyone found a solution for the dts issue yet? I just discovered this thread today and have MKV files playing nicely just with stereo audio instead of 5.1 dts.

Thanks for the heads up! I can't believe there is not more attention being paid to this. There are 200 threads on how to convert MKV to WMV or how to use transcoding but easy MKV streaming gets no attention. Crazy.
I have the same problem with getting the DTS streams only in stereo and have been unsuccessful with getting pass through to actually work.

just so you all know i use Koepis codec pack with windows 7 and everything plays perfectly, no stutter, no slow down and full HD support.
Also supports DTS sound, 7.1 smile.gif

just throwing it out there for you all
