I have a 1.6 xbox with a Tuscany PSU (PSCD101301A REV K).

The voltages are:

12VS (yellow)
5VS (orange)
5V (red)

My question is, What is the difference between 5V and 5Vs??
At first, I thought 5Vs was 5 volt stand-by but one of the 5Vs wires supplies the 5v rail to the HD, so can this be?

The 1.6 xbox I am repairing took a surge and I am trying to convert a 1.4 PSU for
use in it.
Thanks

I think its is just normal 5v but its just the 5vs supplies the motherboard with the standby power...Like you were saying.. that or it means nothing at all rolleyes.gif

The orange wire on a 1.6 should be the standby voltage (5v) which is usually abbreviated as 5vsb. With the Xbox off but plugged in (be careful!) put a multimeter to a black wire (ground) and to the orange wire (5vs). If you get +5v with the Xbox off then it is the standby wire. It shouldnt be feeding the Hard Drive though, thats whats got me... Typically the red +5v wire will feed the hard drive.

EDIT just saw your last line, about trying to convert a 1.4 PSU to work in a 1.6. That won't work; the 1.6 uses a 5v standby line, while the 1.4 uses a 3.3v standby line. It isnt impossible, but its difficult to boost the 3.3vsb to 5vsb (but much easier to go the other way around). Why not just pick up another psu? New/used 1.6 psu's are pretty cheap nowadays.

Hi,

http://diy.sickmods.net/Tutorials/Xbox1/Po...Supply_Pinouts/

The 1.6 supply is a strange beast. The orange line has 5V in standby and also when the xbox is turned on.

When the xbox is turned on, the orange wire needs to deliver a serious amount of current. Because of that reason, you can't even use a PC supply for a 1.6 mobo.

regards.

Ok, so basically, I have no way to test this motherboard. That's nice.

Ok, so far, the HD and DVD rom are unscathed from the surge, so, if I had to guess,
I would say that the PSU ate the surge, and inadvertently, protected the MoBo. The thing
that worries me is that, in my experience, 1.6 mobo's are junk and easily damaged, so I am hoping
the supply dampened the jolt. Oh well. Bright side, I have the eeprom for it.

Thanks for the replies guys

OBCD, That's funny that you mention the PC PSU because the first 1.6 I ever worked on had a bad supply, so I tried to power it with a PC PSU and cooked the sound processor. laugh.gif

Why the dislike for v1.6 mobos? They suck for hard modding or linux, but otherwise I've always found them reliable.
