Ipod Question Options

I'm going to get an mp3 player, and was looking at the Ipods. The sales guy was a useless tool, so i figured i'd ask you guys. Do I need to download music from Itunes to put on my Ipod? I've heard you have to buy the music that you use.. And i have a lot of my CD's copied to my hard drive so I can make mixed CD's, and I really don't want to have to buy the music again.

no, you can use any mp3, m4a, wav, etc etc.
it doesnt have to be from itunes, infact, only like 10% of my music is from itunes. the rest is like cds and other sources. so simply, you dont need to use itunes. just click file -> import, then just navigate to the music you want imported.

yeah it will generally play any kind of music, you can drag and drop most, if you have wav files, you might wanna convert them just so it doesn't take up all of your harddrive space

You can insert your music CD's and Import the songs onto your iTunes library. Then from there, connect the iPod to the PC and the songs in your iTunes library will automatically upload your music onto the iPod. The iPod is the best mp3 (ect.) player on the market. It 0wnez the Zune too!

No way. Tell me what it does BETTER than any other MP3 player besides interface/size (no GREAT shakes there, maybe marginally better at most) and arguably music store (I majorly prefer a Napster-style store than pay per song). Other HD-based MP3 players have better battery life for movies and music, FM radio, sound recorder (we're not talking about iPod Linux either), MUCH more durable (iPods don't take a beating, trust me), and a few other factors.

I have a 4G iPod and love it, but admit that the iPod is not the best (anymore at least). The Gigabeat is VERY good.

I got a question for my friend.

He has an ipod, but he has to use the ipod.ca instead of the ipod.com. He wants to know how to put video, and movies on his ipod because you can't with the .ca one. It's the same ipod, just you have to use different itunes

No way. I'm with you, the only reason I see to own an iPod is for its size (GB wise). The only other players I've seen that get up in the 60+ gb range are huge Media Players, and although cool, I need something for rides up into the mountains when I get the motorcycle back up and running.

Of course, if you know of a similar sized (physically and storage space wise) I'd love to hear about it, my iPods on its last leg right now.

The Toshiba Gigabeat.
I've only used one for about a minute, felt very light to me, so light it seemed as though it was just a shell with nothing in it (maybe I was dreaming?).

60gb Toshiba Gigabeat, plays movies and obviously MP3s. $300. Not bad at all.
From whaty I played around with, it felt very nice and again, VERY light (though this was a gigabeat mp3 not media center but they are very similar). The battery life on these is better (I think) than an iPod and the Media Center ones have FM radios.
On second thought the one I linked to is rated at 12 hours battery life for audio so nevermind. They do have non-media center 30 GB ones at buy.com for like $170 shipped. I was having troubles with my iPod that I managed to fix but if I could not that was my next stop.
