If Microsoft wants to announce something great that competes with PS3, they should announce a D-Pad that works! I already bought a PS3 for Blu-Ray, and now I'm repurchasing downloadable games like Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo just because the D-Pad on the PS3 is actually usable.

you forget 1 VERY important fact to add the hdmi cost probably 5 to 10 bucks a console the bluray drive will add at least 100 bucks to cost and stand-alone bluray player prices are starting to drop so its not realy that good of idea to do it now pop.gif

I think your right in that point, I don't believe a damn shit of it till I see it! However, I'm only stating that Microsoft is known for their bullshit press talk.

While i'm not "wishing" the 360 blue ray into existence,(Hell, i don't even own a 360 yet) i do find a lot of the arguments against the possibility flawed.

1. M$ has already shown they love to screw early adopters with the HDMI revision, which a lot of people thought was fake.
2. Yes, as they have said several times, M$ wants a pay to stream content future world. In order to archive this, they need to first make consumers comfortable with using the 360 as a media hub and not just as a gaming system.

2a. They do this buy showing support for the next big media distribution method, as consumers are much more likely to be happy still putting a small round physical disk into a drive(as they have been doing for a decade) long before they are comfortable with a non-tangible streaming method.
2b. They gambled on HD-DVD to achieve this transitional step. It flopped; hard. They don't want to scrap this transitional step, so they have to adopt.
3. A blue ray player whether internal or external won't at all effect the 360 games or what media they are distributed on. ( personally if i were a betting man i would gamble on a external drive)

That's all i wanted to say. I am just about to finish a double business and engineering degree, and this is my best guess at M$'s thinking.

i do not think microsoft will announce a blueray version. but if they do, they have a great position to win the current console gen war!

Maybe Sony should announce thumbsticks that work biggrin.gif Sorry but the 360 controller is far superior in design and comfort!

HIGHLY doubt this, but doesn't matter to me either way. games won't be on BD so who gives a SH1T. Anyone who wanted a BD player ..ummm. bought one so that I don't think will be a huge thing for most gamers. See I use my BD/HDDVD combos to watch movies, I use my 360 to ...well.. play games. Strange, cause that's what it's for. I mean don't get me wrong, I hope they do it for real, then anyone who is on the fence casue they want a BD player now can actually make a decision.

I still think it's not true, but we will see.

From the people who brought you advance word of Lips!!!

Seriously though, I'm sick of people trying to wish a 360 Blu-ray player into life.

QUOTE(Tiuk @ Jun 8 2008, 01:41 PM) *

This is just stupid, a 360 Blu-ray drive and the 3G iPhone are not competing products in any way.

+1+1+1.. seriously all this talk about blu-ray is just stupid bs. How many times has MS said they wouldn't do it? Over a dozen that I can remember. Also like Tiuk says.. who the f cares about BR vs. iphone!? how could either announcement upstage the other? that's the most stupid remark I've heard this weekend, GG rumors. come on -.-

What would be the price point, $199 like when the hd-dvd addon was released? You can get a ps3 for 399? probably be 350 by the end of the year.... Would you rather shell out 200 bux for the addon, or maybe top it up and get a ps3?

I suppose they could do it for cheaper, but a standalone bluray reader drive costs over 100 bux, and we know MS likes to rip us off on the peripherals, so I couldn't see them doing it much cheaper than 199.

obviously not all 360's have HDMI which would be a minor limitation for blu-ray to some users. HD-DVD managed 1080p via componant, but I assume they would still have to limit 1080p to only hdmi users on blu-ray.

i dont see why they would have to limit it to hdmi... the 360 can output 1080p via component and the hdcp i believe was never required so you wouldnt need hdmi for the handshake (that is if i remember how that was suppose to work).

how many times did MS say the hdmi xbox was fake and that the rumors were all untrue? look at how that panned out. all new 360s come standard with an hdmi output

Sorry, I wasn't talking about the thumbsticks. I was talking about the Directional pad and I don't think anyone can against Sony's being superior. I know when SF2HD and SF4 come out, I'll be buying on PS3.
