I have a 120GB Maxtor HD that was being used solely for Xbox purposes. I recently got a bigger HD for the Xbox, so I figured I'd use the 120 as PC storage space. I unlocked it, set the jumper to Master, and mounted it as my secondary master in my PC. Turned on my PC, went to my BIOS' config menu, and it seems to recognize the drive just fine, it says Maxtor-Y-582whatever in the secondary master slot. However, when I boot to Windows, it can't seem to see the drive. This is probably something REALLY fucking dumb that I'm overlooking, but it's 6 am and it's difficult to think straight. In short, I'm trying to format the drive for general PC usage, but uh, can't.
Sorry for the dumbass question, it's early. |

not sure but i think it has to be formatted before windows and use it. Windows can format it, i think if its FATX it might come up as unformatted, but im not sure. You must format it for windows. Xbox will format it as FATX a file system windows doesnt suppot. Also make sure you're 100% correct in saying you unlocked it. http://www.hddunlock.com/ will tell you if its locked for free. If you want it to unlock it you'll need to pay or have your unlock key around. |

And I'm pretty sure it's unlocked, I even re-locked and unlocked it to be positive. |

Ok this is assuming you have XP (Pro and Home):
1) Rt click my computer 2) Left click Manage 3) Left click Disk management Within that menu you can format and partition drives. |

Ah. Thanks guys. I was feeling really stupid for a while. To my dismay, I accidentally formatted a full SD card and banged my shin up pretty good while doing all this. Sleep deprivation and hardware don't mix

I was having the same exact problem. I couldn't figure it out until I read your thread. The answer just came to me out of the blue. I used a xboxhdm boot cd to first, unlock the drive under option 3. Just do it to make sure that your drive is unlocked. Then, I reboot it and ran xboxhdm under option 1. At that point I wiped the partition table from the disk. I booted back into windows. Lo and behold, the drive finally appeared under disk management. There you can partition and format the drive. It will not show up if it's formated as fatx, so you must wipe the partition first with xboxhdm.
