I decided to install an 80mm green LED fan on the back of the Xbox that runs off the power connector for the HD. Unfortunately, it makes more noise than the original did. I decided to install a potentiometer so I could turn it down when I'm not gaming, but the potentiometer goes to infinite resistance. I don't want to accidentally turn off the fan and make the Xbox overheat. I was wondering if hooking up a resistor in parallel to the Potentiometer was a good idea and if so what is a good approximation for the amount of ohms that lets enough power through to keep the fan running?
Here's a pic of the fan in the Xbox. You can see I haven't dremmeled and reinstalled the Harddrive tray.
