Nkpatcher comes with a very clear readme file that explains all possibilities and installation instructions.

An excellent guide to shadow c:\ (how to set up and use)
http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?sho...dpost&p=2138833

The readme will explain most other things well enough.

As for compiling the file, just see the readme, and use the nasm compiler (google it). Then make sure you sign it with xbedump. You can create a simple .bat script to do this all for you, I saw one somewhere in that linked thread.

Remember when you install nkpatcher, you are replacing whatever PBL you are using. This means it must be signed with the habibi key using xbedump (usual places, forum search it). Then a new file must be compiled every time you wish to change a setting, this is why the .bat script comes in handy.

Sorry, I realise this would be a bit confusing but as long as you have a backup of your current config, and a way to FTP into the xbox via gamesave exploit, tinker with it a bit. Best way to learn tongue.gif

I feel the link you provided may be more confusing then helpfull for n00bz. He just tries to explain how to completely hide the real C partition + image. I personally feel it's safe enough to let the C image and eeprom rest in a normal partition's folder (e:\shadowc.img) cuz it can't be deleted anyways while in use.

alright i instealled uxe from frieko's guide. it worked great was simple

now i open the readme file
QUOTE
Installation
------------

* Just run nkpatcher-06.xbe or nkpatcher-67.xbe. They're signed with the habibi
key. The dashboard path in the default configuration is C:\evoxdash.xbe
(nkpatcher will launch this after patching done.) When you run nkpatcher.xbe,
the kernel in memory should be retail except for possibly having habibi or fonts
public key (this condition is satisfied with exploits.)

* The file names follow the usual convention; nkpatcher-06 is the "F drive takes
all the space" bios and nkpatcher-67 is "F drive up to 137 GB and G drive takes
the rest". A partition table on the HD will override this (HD partition table
can be made ignored with a config.inc setting.)

just run nkpather-06.xbe
so i drop all of it into my apps dir, i rename the file to default so its picked up and launch it from evox.. and i get nothing.

so thats about what the readme gave me. any other thoughts? sad.gif

You don't quite get it. Nkpatcher is a REPLACEMENT for the current bios loader or kernel patcher. It doesn't work when running it from the apps folder since the kernel is then allready replaced or patched. For the use of this it may be wise to understand more how exploits and kernel patchers work.

im learning

so to launch it u need to replace the default.xbe in the e drive.

which the default xbe WAS metoo m8plus so i swap that out and rename nkpather-06 to default.xbe and reboot and it boots fine

so this i assume is the launching/patching for it.

now im trying to work out the next steps.
i have my process of learning shit. i can sit and read it but untill i do it id ont fully understand wtf they are tlaking about

thats why im trying exploits. so i can have a clue smile.gif

ok i see that the readme gives me all the needed tools and code. BUT its missing steps that throw me off

i can get nkpatcher into e drive to boot up instead of pblmetoo.. easy

now it wants me to run
QUOTE
* Edit file config.inc to configure nkpatcher. Then compile using NASM
  (Netwide Assembler):

    nasm -o nkpatcher.xbe xboxapp.asm

Remember to sign the output file (XBE) with xbedump.

but which ever mothode i do this i get at least one or more errors
the nkpather.xbe i am patching whish is this? simply the nkpather-06.xbe renamed.. or is it pulled off the xbox
i know where xboxapp.asm is but i get errors about it not being able to run certain files etc.
then it says nothing on where to place this shit

sigh sad.gif

If you can get the nkpatcher running and letting it boot to evox your allready done. The compiling is only if you wanna change any of the settings.
The settings can be changed in the source folder's configfile. If you wanna compile using asm you can look in the faq's for a tutorial about compiling asm sources.

the src folder. does it need to be in the xbox? or is it just there for recompiling and all that info is in the xbe itself.

mainly i wanna get shadow c going so i can protect against updates to me dash board

Shadow C doesn't protect against updates, it allows them. This is because it appears when correctly set up as a 'retail c:\' with the xboxdash.xbe the actual dashboard and the /fonts directory containing the correct fonts. This means that your dash can be updated by games/DVDs, but it will not affect the exploit in any way.

This is actually an advantage since some mixed mode DVDs (Riddick, Hulk, SW) require the /fonts directory to boot on xbox. Since before shadow C they found hacked fonts, they inevitably crashed.

Using UXE without shadow c however, makes it impossible (at this point in time) to update the m$ dash since the retail fonts cannot be found.
