does anyone have any idea why xbox360 wont recognized the harddrive if i used WinHex to copy manually the sectors 16-22 on the harddrive ?

i used the hddhackr tool to mod the WD harddrives....but i tried to mod some samsung drives and the hddhackr only works with WD so i used WinHex to open the drive and place the sectors manually but for some reason xbox360 wont see the drive .....

anyone ? any idea why ?

My understanding is the only reason that we are able to get the 360 to think a drive is a true MS drive is that the WD dives firware is flashed so when the 360 looks at it, it sees what it thinks is the official drive by reading the hddss from the firmare not location 16-22.

You cannot just manually put that data on sectors 16-22 of any drive. I also tried that but until it is flashed with that info in it, it will not work. hddhackr would have to be able to flash your samsung drive to make it work and it does not support that.

So unless you are able to figure out how to manually flash that drive, you are out of luck.

If you do happen to make that happen, let us know!

I have been hearing about this too many times and I don't know what is happening. If you didn't let windows do anything with it if a pop up came up saying it needed to be formatted, then I don't know what to say.

You might look at it in disk management in windows (I am just assuming your using windows) and make sure it is still seeing the drive as a 18.62 GB Unallocated drive.

So the 360 does not see the drive at all right? You dont even have the option to format? You might want to dump the security sector out and compare it to your backupp hddss.bin that you made first. You did make that right?

Let us know what you find.

man its very strange , because i didnt do anything to it besides a backup..
and i did a full backup of the drive...

and i did compare the security info with the one from backup and were looking the same..
i also formated the drive in windows , but nothing....
opened up xplorer360 and did a restore to it and it restored the backup but for some reason
when the restoring finishes the pop up loading windows its still up and nothing happens ..
i left it like that for 2 hours thinking that its still working or something but nothing....
i closed the program and opened the drive again and showed 3 partitions.
i opened the drive i xport360 tool and same thing , the drive was recognized and
showed 3 partitions but on xbox360 its still not working...

its driving me mad....

I have the same exact issue. I have tried even the same steps as you and I can't get anything to work with my 20 gig as well. I'm not sure what to try now. Any suggestions? Any new finds dexter?

I am inching toward the WD bev 120 but not sure. Since a drive is just 10 to 20 bucks more than a freaking mem card.

Thanks

go with the 120.. you can find the hddss.bins online if you know where to look. once you have all the stuff you need to make the 120 gig drive its really simple

or if you want i'll sell you the 20 gig HDD i just got out of mine when i upgraded it to 120gig
