Hey i want to know the right way to use the braid to desolder? Because everyone is tellin me different ways and i am wondering whats the right way and the best way to remove alil solder with it.. Is this easier to use then the bulb because the bulb thing is bigger.. But give me some tips on how to use the braid and pictures would help me too. smile.gif

Use a Hot iron, lay a fresh piece of braid over the area which has the solder that you want to remove, then press down with the iron. As the braid heats up, the solder will just flow into it. Make sure you remove the braid within a few seconds of removing the iron, or the braid will just stay soldered to the board.

A wide tip is good for this, and a hot (not a cheapy 15W) iron.

Ok i got a 40w i think it can handle it smile.gif ..So i just put the braid on the solder i want to remove and then put the solder gun on the braid and it should start to removen the soldre?

Yeh - dont press too hard, and if it isnt working, use flux.
I sometimes find that i need to add extra solder into the part im trying to remove so that it forms a 'bump', and the braid makes better contact when it is first heating up, then the solder flows more easily.

Ok i will i heard some people told me to do this.. Heat the solder up for it to be liquidy and then get the braid and stick it on the liquidy solder... Is that incorrect?

Edit i found the Flux paste on radioshack site... I want to know if i can just use the braid instead of gettting that flux paste stuff?

Sorry i am askin alot of dum questions about desoldering i never did it before but i think i can handle it smile.gif

I manage without the flux paste, but alot of users here reccomend it, especially for a beginner.

Just experiment on an old board first if you arent sure, once you get the hang of it its pretty easy.

ya i just got some of this braid the other day and i was trying to desolder a headphone jack from a pcb but i was having difficulties, some solder would melt fine but it just wouldnt suck up. so i tried flux and still, the flux just melted all over the pace and made the whole board sticky and the solder still stayed
