Whilst doing an X-clamp fix for myself, my pliers accidentally slipped off the bolt when i was tightening it and it knocked a small chip off the motherboard.

I'm going nuts here as I'm an xbox addict, and i need to know how/if i can fix this, bearing in mind i don't have a solder iron other wise i would just try putting it back on..

NOTE: Just above the bolt head

NOTE: Just left of the bolt head

Hope someone here can help me with some advice....

Thanks In Advance

Since ya don't have an iron it really makes no difference either way, but it'll be alright missing and isn't going to cause any issues.

ok, take it to the backyard. Put it on top of a milk crate. Take all the extension cords you have in the house. Plug it in. Hide behind a barrier. Push the power on the 360 controller. If it doesn't catch on fire i think you are good.

I'm going to tell you now, those bolts are going to make your system worse than before and it WILL fail again.

Unless you're drilling the metal housing so the bolts heads can pass through, you will be warping the board when it's all installed.

Should be okay...
Connect all the plugs and the RF/Power-On board and take a look if it works.
And I think you might really have to drill the bolthead+washer looks like it is a bit too high and might cause warping just as the other guy said...
Check out first if it works at all though after that you can still drill the holes...

Firstly Thank you for all the replies, I didn't want to test it myself after knocking the chip off incase i messed it up even more, but when RDC told me it should be ok i bit the bullet... and thankfully it does work ok.

Regards the bolt heads, the instructions i recieved didnt say anything about drilling holes therefore i didn't think i needed think i needed to bearing in mine this is my first fix.

Do i drill the holes about the same size as they are on the mobo so that i can slot the bolts in through the case???

I know there are washers still sit on under the heat sinks but do the other washers sit on the inside or the outside of the metal housing after the holes are drilled??

THFC, are you in the UK?

If so, get to B&Q and get "MACHINE SCREW PAN HEAD SLOTTED", part number AVF-853746.

They are the bolts you want, no drilling involved. (M5's)

Just a de-coupling capacitor, appears to be legacy (left in for good measure) as the main component spot nearby is vacant.
Be careful next time - they are kinda useful near the main chips!
