I just tried to mod my xbox with an Xecuter 2.3b lite. The first time I turned it on, it wouldn't boot Cromwell. I disabled the chip and the regular BIOS loaded fine. So I redid some of the soldering work and tried again. Cromwell booted and asked for my BIOS disc. I put in my disc with X2 4983 and that appeared to install properly and the xbox powered itself down.

Now when I turn it on it powers off immediately. Then turns itself back on. The eject light flashes back and forth between red and green for several seconds then it turns orange, then finally powers off. The same thing happens if I try to boot with the chip turned off (switch light is red). I can still boot Cromwell from bank 2. I tried booting EvoX from a boot disc, but nothing happened.

I tried unplugging and replugging all the cords I could find in case it was a loose connection, but have the same problem. I can see the light on the chip is glowing blue. Is my xbox fried?

yes, just takes time and alot of patience.

best thing would be to remove the chip altogether and make sure your machine still works as normal with it out. If not you got some problems and need to figure out wether or not you care if you have a retail MS bios or not.

If not, you can just focus on making the chip work.

If so, it will be easier to repair without the chip there.

I cleaned it up as much as I could. I used the pin header method. I've noticed two problems that I haven't been able to fix yet. One of the spare LPC holes has solder in it. I can't seem to get it out. The other is that one of the pins on the pin header is a millimeter taller than the others. I tried to push it down with the gun, but all I did was get solder on it. Any tips on fixing any of these problems? Do you think these two things are my problem?

Any help would be welcome.

your X2 should have also come with a wire installer correct? try using that, I hate the pin header and prefer wires. I used to have all kinds of problems with the pin headers (all kinds but not frequent) and since the switch to wires I have had 0 problems ever.

Ok, but how do I get the pin header out? That thing seems to be a permanent fixture on my motherboard now.
